Clementine Music Player Ubuntu 14.04

Clementine, a modern music player and library organizer inspired by Amarok 1.4, has reached version 1.2.3 with a few bugfixes.

This simple tutorial will show you how to install this release in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr while the default repositories still have version 1.2.0.

  • (Linux) Fix poor search performance with sqlite 3.8.
  • (Ubuntu) Fix dependency issues on Ubuntu 14.04.

  • Install Clementine:

    You can add the Clementine PPA and receive updates by running the command below in a terminal window (Press Ctrl+Alt+T to open the terminal):

    sudo apt-add-repository ppa:me-davidsansome/clementine

    So far, the PPA supports Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 12.10, and Ubuntu 12.04.

    After added the PPA, install the player via the commands below or check for updates via System Updater:

    sudo apt-get update
    
    sudo apt-get install clementine

    Don’t like launcher PPA? Well, you can directly download & install the .DEB at github.com.

    This tutorial will show you how to install the latest Clementine music player and library organizer in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr.

    As you may know, Clementine is a multiplatform music player inspired by Amarok 1.4, focusing on a fast and easy-to-use interface for searching and playing your music. Since version 1.2, you’re able to control Clementine remotely from an Android device and listen to your music stored in Box, Dropbox, Onedrive and Ubuntu One. Clementine 1.2.2 is the second update with following changes:

    • (Android Remote) Add kittens support.
    • Rename SkyDrive to OneDrive.

    Install:

    The official download page provides DEB packages for all supported Ubuntu releases, including Ubuntu 14.04. Just download the package for your Ubuntu and OS type, and install it via Gdebi (recommended, it’s available in Software Center) or Ubuntu Software Center.

    If you would like to keep the player update-to-date by regular system update, you may add the Clementine PPA (check out the PPA in launchpad page).

    Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, run:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:me-davidsansome/clementine

    After that, you can install / upgrade the music player after checking for updates. For command line, run:

    sudo apt-get update
    
    sudo apt-get install clementine

    Clementine, Amarok 1.4 inspired music player recently released v1.2.1 with important bug fixes. They are network remote issues, login failures with box.com, and Spotify downloader button not shown issue.

    The official changelog:

    If you’re using Clementine 1.2, it’s strongly recommended to upgrade and here’s how:

    1. For Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 10.04 and their derivatives, such as Linux Mint 13/14/15, Pear OS 7/8, Elementary OS Luna:

    Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal and then run commands below one by one to install it and receive updates from PPA:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:me-davidsansome/clementine
    
    sudo apt-get update
    
    sudo apt-get install clementine

    2. For Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 14.04 use the DEBs for Ubuntu 13.04 from the link below. Install them via:

    sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/clementine_1.2.1~raring_*.deb; sudo apt-get -f install

    3. Source code, and other systems’ installer are available in the official download page.
