Shotcut, the free open-source non-linear video editor, released new 25.03 few days ago with enhancements.
The new release of this cross-platform MLT based video editor introduced some new features and fixed various bugs. First, it now displays the video mode in window title-bar, including the video resolution, FPS, and audio channel info.
Shotcut 25.03 introduced 2 new video filters: 360: Cap Top & Bottom and 360: Equirectangular Wrap. The official user guide does not update for the new filters at the moment of writing. But as the names indicate, they are for creating a 360-degree virtual reality or immersive experience.
Besides the new filters, the release also improved the Copy Channel filter with “Copy Current” and “Copy All” options, added “Vertical” and “Horizontal” parameters to the No Sync video filter, and introduced text style preset to “Generate Text on Timeline” under Subtitles’ hamburger menu.
There are as well new “Not In a Bin” smart bin in the Playlist, Ctrl (Command) key to constrain movement to the vertical or horizontal axis in all filters, filter search with #rgba
, #yuv
, #gpu
, and #10bit
tags, as well as new “ITU-R BT.2020” color space option in the custom video mode dialog.
Other changes include new icon in timeline clips when they have filters, reduced Gamma and Gain range in the Color Grading filter, as well as fixes for various issues, including undo/redo crashes. double-clicking item in a Bin may open wrong clip, and Windows shortcuts and macOS aliases handling issues in Files. See the release note for more.
