The new 139.0 release of Firefox web browser is finally available to download after 10 beta testing releases.

The official release note for this version is not ready at the moment of writing. According to its Github releases page, it includes some exciting new features.

First, it introduced new link previews experimental feature that can be enabled via Firefox Labs setting page. With it enabled, user may move mouse cursor over a link and press Alt+Shift to preview the link page in pop-up with AI-generated key points. The AI runs locally on user’s device and browse data is not shared or stored. See HERE for more.

Firefox supports changing the background for New Tabs. In the new release, it enhanced the feature by adding ability to upload a custom image as wallpaper for new tabs. And, the solid colors selection page added option to choose a custom color by either color picker or inputting a color code.

As well, the Full-Page Translations feature in the release has been extended with support for Firefox extension pages that start with the moz-extension://.

Other changes in the browser release include:

  • The Review Checker feature is shutting down and will no longer be available after June 10, 2025.
  • The Temporal proposal, a better version of Date, is now enabled by default.
  • Support timer throttling for Workers.
  • Closed <details> elements are now searchable and can be automatically expanded if found via find-in-page.
  • Support the hidden=until-found attribute.
  • Add support WebAuthn Large Blob Extension.
  • Add support for requestClose() to HTMLDialogElement.
  • Keep PNG transparency when pasting into Firefox.
  • Improve upload performance of HTTP/3.
