The developer team started the development of Ubuntu 25.10 in last week. Now the release schedule and daily build live CD image are out!
Ubuntu 25.10, code-name Questing Quokka, is the next Ubuntu version planned to be released on October 09. It’s a short term release with 9-month support circle.
If everything goes well, it will feature GNOME 49 desktop and the latest Linux Kernel (probably v6.17 according to Kernel release interval).
Ubuntu developer team announced the release schedule for Ubuntu 25.10 few days ago. Here are the important events and the dates:
August 14, 2025 | Feature Freeze, Debian Import Freeze |
September 04, 2025 | User Interface Freeze |
September 11, 2025 | Kernel Feature Freeze, Documentation String Freeze |
September 15, 2025 | Beta Freeze, Hardware Enablement Freeze |

If you’re interested in the new Ubuntu development, the daily live CD image for Ubuntu 25.10 has been rolled out yesterday for testing purpose.
NOTE: The Daily CD image is only for testing purpose, DON’T use it on production machine, as it has bugs and crashes more often.
At the moment, the development release still has GNOME 48, Kernel 6.14, and the Ubuntu 25.04 wallpapers. However, the desktop installer has been updated with screen reader support, though it’s incomplete!
Many toolkits and app packages (such as GTK 4.18.5, libinput 1.28.1, Kdenlive 25.04, and more) have been updated to the latest versions.
As time goes on, it will keep updating with most recent libraries, newer Kernels, and include GNOME 49 Beta on August 07, GNOME 49.0 on September 18 according to the release schedule.
