Also Ubuntu runs on phones.<\/p>\n<p>In this page I&#8217;ll give you a step by step guide for beginners how to install Ubuntu separately or alongside with any other os (such as Windows). This tutorial is tested on Ubuntu 21.04 and Ubuntu 21.10, though it should work on all current Ubuntu releases. And for taking screenshots easily, the process is done in Virtualbox.<\/p>\n<h3>Preparation:<\/h3>\n<p>Before getting started, you need to get following things done:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An USB stick with 4 GB + memory<\/li>\n<li>Download Ubuntu ISO image from <a href=\"http:\/\/releases.ubuntu.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/releases.ubuntu.com\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Create bootable USB installer via this <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2021\/04\/create-usb-installer-ubuntu-21-04-20-04\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">step by step guide<\/a>. Or use <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2021\/06\/create-bootable-usb-installer-for-linux-via-ventoy-new-solution\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the new solution: Ventoy<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>1.) Start Ubuntu Installer:<\/h3>\n<p><b>a.)<\/b> Once it boots into the live Ubuntu desktop, it should open the &#8220;Install Wizard&#8221; by default. And the default one is usually OK with normal keyboards! Create Partitions for Ubuntu:<\/h3>\n<p>If you chose &#8220;Something Else&#8221; in previous step, you&#8217;ll get into the partition table. To install Ubuntu, you need following partitions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>BIOS-Boot<\/b> or <b>EFI<\/b> partition on <b>GPT<\/b> disks.<\/li>\n<li><b>EXT4<\/b> partition mounted on <b>\/<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>And <b>swap<\/b> for sleep to disk function.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>a.)<\/b> For GPT hard disk table, you HAVE to create either <b>BIOS-Boot<\/b> or <b>EFI<\/b> partition.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To check out if GPT or not, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command:\n<pre>sudo parted -l<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/check-gpt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/check-gpt-600x191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"191\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-33670\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/check-gpt-600x191.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/check-gpt-300x96.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/check-gpt.jpg 703w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>\nCheck if it already exists:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The EFI partition is usually <b>FAT<\/b> \/ <b>FAT32<\/b> with 100 ~ 250 MB size.<\/li>\n<li>The <b>BIOS-Boot<\/b> partition for <u>Legacy mode<\/u> is usually <b>1 MB<\/b> partition with no system type.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>To create BIOS-Boot or EFI partition, normally for a new hard disk. <del>NOTE: It must the first partition on the disk.<\/del>\n<p>Click on the free space, then click &#8220;+&#8221;. In pop-up window, choose:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>EFI: 250 MB, use as &#8220;EFI System Partition&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>or BIOS-Boot: 1 MB, use as &#8220;Reserved BIOS boot area&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hirsute-efi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hirsute-efi-600x337.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-33671\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hirsute-efi-600x337.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hirsute-efi-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hirsute-efi-768x431.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/hirsute-efi.jpg 1108w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>b.)<\/b> Create Ext4 partition for Ubuntu file system.<\/p>\n<p>Remove partitions you don&#8217;t use any more to free up disk space and create an <b>EXT4<\/b> partition with mount point <b>\/<\/b>. <b>8 GB<\/b> size is required for system files. However, <b>50 GB<\/b> I think will be good for long time using.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/install-hirsute-createpartition.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/install-hirsute-createpartition-600x334.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"334\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-33672\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/install-hirsute-createpartition-600x334.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/install-hirsute-createpartition-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/install-hirsute-createpartition-768x428.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/install-hirsute-createpartition.jpg 1108w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>c.)<\/b> Create Swap partition:<\/p>\n<p>Swap is required for the hibernate function.
