For default <b>Yaru<\/b> icon theme, it&#8217;s located in <i>\/usr\/share\/icons\/Yaru\/scalable\/actions<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/startmenu-icon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"270\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/startmenu-icon.png 500w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/startmenu-icon-450x243.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To replace the icon, open terminal by pressing <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard, then do following steps one by one.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.)<\/b> Make a backup of the original icon file:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">cd \/usr\/share\/icons\/Yaru\/scalable\/actions\/ && sudo cp view-app-grid-symbolic.svg view-app-grid-symbolic.svg.bak<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/back-starticon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"137\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/back-starticon.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/back-starticon-450x103.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.) Grab a SVG icon from web<\/b>. In the case, I <a href=\"https:\/\/worldvectorlogo.com\/logo\/ubuntu-icon\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">downloaded this ubuntu logo svg<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>NOTE: it must be a <code>.svg<\/code> icon file.<\/p>\n<p><b>3.)<\/b> Copy (or move) your <code>.svg<\/code> to replace the start menu icon:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo cp <b>\/path\/to\/your\/svg<\/b> \/usr\/share\/icons\/Yaru\/scalable\/actions\/view-app-grid-symbolic.svg<\/pre>\n<p>In my case the command is:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo cp ~\/Downloads\/ubuntu-icon.svg \/usr\/share\/icons\/Yaru\/scalable\/actions\/view-app-grid-symbolic.svg<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/copy-newicon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"104\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/copy-newicon.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/copy-newicon-450x78.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>4.)<\/b> Finally apply changes by pressing <b>Alt+F2<\/b>, type <b>r<\/b> in pup-up &#8216;Run a command&#8217; box, and hit Enter to restart Gnome.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restart-gnome-450x228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"228\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restart-gnome-450x228.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restart-gnome.jpg 471w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>To restore changes<\/b>, simply copy back the backup file you did in step 1 by running command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">cd \/usr\/share\/icons\/Yaru\/scalable\/actions\/ && sudo cp view-app-grid-symbolic.svg.bak view-app-grid-symbolic.svg<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restore-starticon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"103\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restore-starticon.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restore-starticon-450x77.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Want to change the &#8216;Show Applications&#8217; dot grid icon in the dock panel of Ubuntu 20.04 Gnome Desktop?
