It supports advanced composition operations such as keying and mattes, and many other professional functions depending on the variant.<\/p>\n<p>Cinelerra has a few variants, including GG, CV, HV. To enable it, press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to open terminal, then run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install libfuse2<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/apt-libfuse2.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43866\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/apt-libfuse2-600x419.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/apt-libfuse2-600x419.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/apt-libfuse2-300x210.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/apt-libfuse2-768x537.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/apt-libfuse2.webp 866w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Then, select download the latest version of the AppImage from its website:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/cinelerra-gg.org\/download\/images\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Cinelerra GG<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Scroll down in that page and click download the latest package. At the moment of writing, it&#8217;s &#8220;<em>CinGG-20240229-x86_64.AppImage<\/em>&#8221; (for modern Intel\/AMD CPUs).<\/p>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> After downloaded the package, right-click on it in file manager, then click go to its &#8220;<b>Properties<\/b>&#8221; dialog.<\/p>\n<p>Next, navigate to <i>Permissions<\/i> tab and click enable &#8220;Allow executing file as program&#8221;. Create an App icon for Cinelerra<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to launch the video editor from start menu or Gnome &#8216;Show Apps&#8217; screen just like other normal apps. Then, click launch text editor first.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/open-texteditor.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-43854\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/open-texteditor.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/open-texteditor.webp 480w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/open-texteditor-300x169.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When text editor opens, create a new empty file (if it does not open a new one), then write following lines into it:<\/p>\n<pre>[Desktop Entry]\r\nName=Cinelerra GG\r\nComment=MultiMedia Editor\r\nCategories=AudioVideo;AudioVideoEditing;\r\nEncoding=UTF-8\r\nExec=<b>\/home\/ji\/Apps\/CinGG-20240229-x86_64.AppImage<\/b>\r\nIcon=Cinelerra\r\nTerminal=false\r\nType=Application<\/pre>\n<p><b>IMPORTANT: In the lines above, you need to replace the value for &#8220;Exec&#8221;! In my case, I moved the AppImage file into my custom &#8220;Apps&#8221; folder in user home. So, it&#8217;s &#8220;\/home\/username\/Apps\/file-name.AppImage&#8221;. You have to change it to yours!<\/b><\/p>\n<p>And for icon, you need to download one from web. Either .png or .svg file. Re-name to <code>Cinelerra.png<\/code> (or <code>Cinelerra.svg<\/code> depends on image type), and put it to &#8220;.local\/share\/icons&#8221; directory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/cinelerra-desktop.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46248\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/cinelerra-desktop-700x403.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/cinelerra-desktop-700x403.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/cinelerra-desktop-300x173.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/cinelerra-desktop-768x442.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/cinelerra-desktop.webp 1137w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When done editing the text file, click &#8220;save&#8221; (or save as), then select save the file to <b>.local\/share\/applications<\/b> directory, whatever name as you want with &#8220;.desktop&#8221; extension.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/save-cinelerra-desktop.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46249\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/save-cinelerra-desktop-700x449.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/save-cinelerra-desktop-700x449.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/save-cinelerra-desktop-300x193.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/save-cinelerra-desktop-768x493.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/save-cinelerra-desktop.webp 1005w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If everything&#8217;s done properly, you&#8217;re able to search for and launch the video editor from menu a few moments later.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/launch-cinelerra.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-46250\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/launch-cinelerra.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"532\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/launch-cinelerra.webp 532w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/launch-cinelerra-300x154.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 532px) 100vw, 532px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall Cinelerra GG<\/h3>\n<p>To uninstall the video editor, just delete the .AppImage file from your file manager.
