It is used by a number of Ubuntu\u2019s flavours, including Xubuntu.<\/p>\n<p>The latest version 1.7.1 has been released a few hours ago with below changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Username tooltip tweaks<\/li>\n<li>Language applet now displays country code labels<\/li>\n<li>Login windows can no longer be positioned \u2018off screen\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Improvements to handling of xscreensaver timeout<\/li>\n<li>Login button set as \u201cdefault\u201d widget<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/gtk-greeter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/gtk-greeter.jpg\" alt=\"LightDM gtk greeter\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2902\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/gtk-greeter.jpg 580w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/gtk-greeter-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Install:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run below commands one by one:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lightdm-gtk-greeter-team\/stable\n\nsudo apt-get update\n\nsudo apt-get install lightdm-gtk-greeter<\/pre>\n<p>This will install the latest package for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 12.10 and their derivatives.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t like Launchpad PPAs, download &#038; install the .deb from <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~lightdm-gtk-greeter-team\/+archive\/stable\/+packages\" title=\"LightDM Gtk greeter\" target=\"_blank\">this page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Usage:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>After installation, your login screen should changed at next boot. If not, edit the config file via:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo gedit \/etc\/lightdm\/lightdm.conf<\/pre>\n<p>Make sure its content looks like:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[SeatDefaults]<br \/>\ngreeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Edit the <i>\/etc\/lightdm\/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf<\/i> file via below command to change the theme, icon, etc.<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo gedit \/etc\/lightdm\/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf<\/pre>\n<p>In below config file I used the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~numix\/+archive\/ppa\" target=\"_blank\">Numix<\/a> gtk theme:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>#<br \/>\n# background = Background file to use, either an image path or a color (e.g. #772953)<br \/>\n# theme-name = GTK+ theme to use<br \/>\n# icon-theme-name = Icon theme to use<br \/>\n# font-name = Font to use<br \/>\n# xft-antialias = Whether to antialias Xft fonts (true or false)<br \/>\n# xft-dpi = Resolution for Xft in dots per inch (e.g. 96)<br \/>\n# xft-hintstyle = What degree of hinting to use (none, slight, medium, or full)<br \/>\n# xft-rgba = Type of subpixel antialiasing (none, rgb, bgr, vrgb or vbgr)<br \/>\n# show-language-selector (true or false)<br \/>\n# show-indicators = semi-colon &#8220;;&#8221; separated list of allowed indicator modules (e.g. libsoundmenu.so)<br \/>\n# show-clock (true or false)<br \/>\n# clock-format = strftime-format string, e.g. %H:%M<br \/>\n# keyboard = command to launch on-screen keyboard<br \/>\n#<br \/>\n[greeter]<br \/>\nbackground=\/usr\/share\/backgrounds\/mate\/nature\/Blinds.jpg<br \/>\ntheme-name=Numix<br \/>\nicon-theme-name=LoginIcons<br \/>\ndefault-user-image = \/usr\/share\/pixmaps\/griffon_icon.png<br \/>\nfont-name=Ubuntu 11<br \/>\nxft-antialias=true<br \/>\nxft-dpi=96<br \/>\nxft-hintstyle=slight<br \/>\nxft-rgba=rgb<br \/>\nshow-language-selector=true<\/p><\/blockquote>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; LightDM GTK+ Greeter brings a quick, reliable, and GTK+ 2\/3 support login screen.
