You may give Burg a try. Burg is a Grub based boot loader which works in both text and graphic mode. When it opens, run the commands below one by one to install Burg from PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:n-muench\/burg\n\nsudo apt-get update\n\nsudo apt-get install burg burg-themes<\/pre>\n<p><i><b>UPDATE:<\/b> Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.10, and derivatives are added support!<\/i><\/p>\n<p>So far, the PPA supports Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 11.10, Ubuntu 11.04 and their derivatives.<\/p>\n<p>While the installing process, click <b>OK<\/b> to answer all questions. In the below screen, you need to press the <b>Space<\/b> key first to select your disk name and <b>Tab<\/b> key to select OK.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/install-burg.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/install-burg.png\" alt=\"install burg ubuntu\" width=\"580\" height=\"299\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2996\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/install-burg.png 580w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/install-burg-300x154.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Install Theme for burg:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>There are 16 themes available by default. You can download more themes at deviantart.com and install them via following steps:<\/p>\n<p>1. Download the theme, Metro as example, at <a href=\"http:\/\/luxieblack.deviantart.com\/art\/Metro-burg-theme-336505408\" title=\"Metro Burg Theme\" target=\"_blank\">deviantart page<\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. Extract the theme package and put the result folder into <b>\/boot\/burg\/themes\/<\/b> directory. Run below command in the terminal to open file browser with root, then do the copy and paste things.<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo nautilus<\/pre>\n<p>3. The theme misses Linux Mint logo. Update burg boot loader:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo update-burg<\/pre>\n<p>5. Now you&#8217;re able to test your boot entries via:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo burg-emu<\/pre>\n<p>In testing mode, press F2 to switch the themes. You can also press F3 to change resolution in the real burg boot menu.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tips<\/b>: You can edit the &#8220;menuentry&#8221; sections in &#8220;\/boot\/burg\/burg.cfg&#8221; to remove unwanted menu entries.<br \/>\nAlso uncomment &#8220;GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_RECOVERY=&#8221;true&#8221;&#8221; in &#8220;\/etc\/defaut\/burg&#8221; will hide the recovery mode.<\/p>\n<p><b>Restore Grub:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To revert back to original grub boot loader, run the command below in terminal:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo grub-install \/dev\/sda<\/pre>\n<p>\/dev\/sda is the disk name (Run <b>sudo fdisk -l<\/b> to check it out).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bored with the default Grub bootloader?
