Every time Ubuntu boots up you get the maximum level of screen brightness.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a workaround by adding a <b>startup script which will automatically adjust screen brightness when Ubuntu boots up<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>To get started:<\/p>\n<p><b>Preparation:<\/b> Open your file browser and navigate to <i>&#8220;Computer-> sys -> class -> backlight&#8221;<\/i> directory. You&#8217;ll see two or three folders there:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3988\" style=\"width: 548px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/backlight-folder.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3988\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/backlight-folder.jpg\" alt=\"Find Out Actual Backlight Settings Folder\" width=\"538\" height=\"282\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3988\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/backlight-folder.jpg 538w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/backlight-folder-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3988\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Find Out Actual Backlight Settings Folder<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In each folder there&#8217;s a file called <b>actual_brightness<\/b>, you can see its content (brightness value) through the thumbnail icon.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/actual-brightness.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/actual-brightness.png\" alt=\"actual-brightness\" width=\"580\" height=\"323\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3989\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/actual-brightness.png 580w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/actual-brightness-300x167.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Remember them and do:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Change your screen brightness through <b>Fn + Arrow key<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Check out the <b>actual_brightness<\/b> files in each folder (Re-open each folder to refresh the value).<\/li>\n<li>Does the value change?<\/li>\n<li>Remember the folder name in which the value of <b>actual_brightness<\/b> changes.<\/li>\n<li>Replace <b>acpi_video0<\/b> in below commands with that folder name <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>1<\/b>. Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, run the command below will give you the maximum level of your laptop backlight:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">cat \/sys\/class\/backlight\/<b>acpi_video0<\/b>\/max_brightness<\/pre>\n<p>Mine is 9, so I can set backlight level from 0 to 9.<\/p>\n<p><b>2<\/b>. Run the command below one by one. You&#8217;ll get the super user privilege and open the \/etc\/rc.local file, a script executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel, with gedit editor.<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo -i\n\ngedit \/etc\/rc.local<\/pre>\n<p>Add the line below before the last.
