Here&#8217;s how to install it in Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and derivatives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flightgear.org\/news\/flightgear-2020-3-released\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FlightGear 2020.3<\/a> release highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New default Keflav\u00edk International Airport (BIKF)<\/li>\n<li>Aircraft updates:\n<ul>\n<li>The A320 has been overhauled<\/li>\n<li>The C182 gained an excellent integration of the FG1000 glass-cockpit, as did the J3 Cub and the Diamond DA40.<\/li>\n<li>The SEPCAT Jaguar GR.1, Bombardier Q400 and twenty more aircraft were added.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>FlightGear now simulates tides covering and uncovering shallow areas (littoral areas), like tidal flats (mudflats).<\/li>\n<li>Textures can be cached &amp; compressed for faster loading and reduced memory use, giving better performance.<\/li>\n<li>Connection to the VATSIM network via SWIFT is officially supported.<\/li>\n<li>Better translation support, and handling of non-ASCII file names.<\/li>\n<li>Many view improvements, including a new Tower-AGL view.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8403\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/flightgear-cockpitview-600x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/flightgear-cockpitview-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/flightgear-cockpitview-450x253.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/flightgear-cockpitview-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/flightgear-cockpitview.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>1.)<\/b> To install the flight simulator, first open terminal either from system application menu or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>When terminal opens, run command to add the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~saiarcot895\/+archive\/ubuntu\/flightgear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PPA repository<\/a>:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: None;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:saiarcot895\/flightgear<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7801\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/flightgear-ppa-bionic-600x126.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"126\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/flightgear-ppa-bionic-600x126.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/flightgear-ppa-bionic-450x95.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/flightgear-ppa-bionic.jpg 759w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.)<\/b> Then refresh system package cache and install the software via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: None;\">sudo apt update\r\n\r\nsudo apt install flightgear<\/pre>\n<p>If an old version was installed, you can also upgrade it via Software Updater utility.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7802\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/upgrade-flightgear-450x325.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/upgrade-flightgear-450x325.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/upgrade-flightgear-600x433.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/upgrade-flightgear.jpg 703w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Uninstall:<\/h4>\n<p>To remove FlightGear PPA, either go to Software &amp; Updates &gt; Other Software, or run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: None;\">sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:saiarcot895\/flightgear<\/pre>\n<p>And remove the flight simulator if you want by running command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: none;\">sudo apt remove --autoremove flightgear flightgear-data<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After 2 years of development, Flightgear 2020.3 was released as the latest stable version of the flight simulator.
