Here&#8217;s how to install the latest version via PPA in Ubuntu.<\/p>\n<p>SoundConverter is a simple and fast Gnome sound conversion software with multi-threading support. It reads anything GStreamer can read, and writes to <b>Opus<\/b>, <b>Ogg Vorbis<\/b>, <b>FLAC<\/b>, <b>WAV<\/b>, <b>AAC<\/b>, and <b>MP3<\/b> files.<\/p>\n<p>It can also be used to automated re-naming filenames and creating folders according to tags, extract the audio from videos.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33478\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/soundconverter-process.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ubuntu includes the software package in its main repositories, however the package version is always old.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to install the most recent 4.0.x version with latest bug-fixes and improvements, the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~xtradeb\/+archive\/ubuntu\/apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cxtradeb packaging\u201d team<\/a> maintains the packages for <b>Ubuntu 20.04<\/b> and <b>Ubuntu 22.04<\/b>.<\/p>\n<h4>1. Add the PPA:<\/h4>\n<p>Firstly open terminal either from system application launcher or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard. When terminal opens, run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xtradeb\/apps<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33479\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/xtradeb-apps.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>2. Add audio file or folder, click the gear button to set result folder, format, quality etc, and convert!<\/p>\n<h4>3. (Optional) How to Remove SoundConverter:<\/h4>\n<p>The PPA contains also many other software packages, e.g, Shutter, GNU Cash, Avidemux.
