And the next Blender 3.0 is under development now.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<i>Blender 2.93 brings 22 new nodes to the Geometry Nodes editor, mesh primitives support, adds the much anticipated Line Art modifier to automatically generate grease pencil lines around objects, a new and faster fill tool, and many Eevee renderer improvements.<\/i>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Blender 2.93 LTS - Features Reel Showcase\" width=\"610\" height=\"343\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fxNlpQYRz7s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>How to Install Blender 2.93 via PPA:<\/h3>\n<p>Blender is available officially via <a href=\"https:\/\/snapcraft.io\/blender\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Snap package<\/a>, which can be easily installed from Ubuntu Software.<\/p>\n<p>For those prefer the classic <i>.deb<\/i> package format, <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~savoury1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/blender\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rob Savoury&#8217;s PPA<\/a> maintains the latest packages for all current Ubuntu releases.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.) Remove Thomas Schiex&#8217;s PPA<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If you installed old Blender packages from Thomas Schiex&#8217;s PPA, it&#8217;s better to remove it first to prevent from going to dependency hell!<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, open terminal from system app launcher.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/terminal-focal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/terminal-focal.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"256\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9967\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/terminal-focal.jpg 490w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/terminal-focal-450x235.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Secondly, run command to remove the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:thomas-schiex\/blender<\/pre>\n<p>You can try purge the PPA instead, but it won&#8217;t work in my case due to issue.<\/p>\n<p><b>2.) Remove old Blender package:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Open terminal and run command to remove old Blender packages if any:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt remove blender blender-data libopenshadinglanguage1.10<\/pre>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to remove <code>libopenshadinglanguage1.10<\/code> package, or the configuration will fail while installing Blender 2.93.<\/p>\n<p><b>3.) Add Rob Savoury&#8217;s PPA<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To add the new PPA, simply run command in terminal:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1\/blender<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/sav-blender-ppa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/sav-blender-ppa-600x209.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"209\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-33920\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/sav-blender-ppa-600x209.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/sav-blender-ppa-300x105.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/sav-blender-ppa-768x268.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/sav-blender-ppa.jpg 789w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>4.) And add the FFmpeg PPA for dependency libraries:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To do so, run command in terminal:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1\/ffmpeg4<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sav-ffmpeg4-ppa.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/sav-ffmpeg4-ppa.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"140\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33387\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>5.) For Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 16.04 only.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 16.04, you need to add even more PPAs for dependencies. To do so, run commands:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1\/gcc-defaults-9<\/pre>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1\/display<\/pre>\n<p><b>6.) Finally install package updates &#038; install Blender:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Firstly run command to refresh package cache and install available package updates:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade<\/pre>\n<p>Finally install Blender 2.93 via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt install blender<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/apt-blender293.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/apt-blender293-600x383.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"383\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-33921\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/apt-blender293-600x383.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/apt-blender293-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/apt-blender293-768x491.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/apt-blender293.jpg 883w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If everything&#8217;s done successfully. Open Blender from system app launcher and enjoy!<\/p>\n<h3>Remove Blender and Ubuntu PPAs:<\/h3>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t use these PPAs anymore and want to remove Blender, purge them by running following commands one by one:<\/p>\n<p>1. Firstly open terminal and run command to install ppa-purge:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt install ppa-purge<\/pre>\n<p>2. Then purge the Ubuntu PPAs one by one:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo ppa-purge ppa:savoury1\/gcc-defaults-9\r\nsudo ppa-purge ppa:savoury1\/ffmpeg4\r\nsudo ppa-purge ppa:savoury1\/display\r\nsudo ppa-purge ppa:savoury1\/blender<\/pre>\n<p>Note purging Ubuntu PPA will either downgrade or remove packages installed from that PPA.
