PPA updated with Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 21.04, and upcoming Ubuntu 21.10 support.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to libheif library, the new release introduced <b>HEIF<\/b> file format support, so it can now handle photos imported from your iOS devices. Also <b>AVIF<\/b>, an image file format specification for storing images or image sequences compressed with AV1 in the HEIF file format is supported, and you can save file as AVIF.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gthumb-heif-min.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gthumb-heif-min-600x319.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"319\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-34433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gthumb-heif-min-600x319.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gthumb-heif-min-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gthumb-heif-min-768x409.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gthumb-heif-min.jpg 1253w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a performance improvement for browsing directory with thousands of images, so users will get a smoother experience. The file list now starts more thumbnailers in parallel, status bar has a button to show the progress dialog. And the color picker tool shows colors in two more formats: rgb in % and hsl.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gimp-color-picker.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gimp-color-picker-600x328.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"328\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-34434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gimp-color-picker-600x328.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gimp-color-picker-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gimp-color-picker-768x420.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/gimp-color-picker.jpg 983w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other changes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Allow to set shortcuts to activate filters.<\/li>\n<li>Added a template editor to edit text values with special codes: script commands, rename templates, print header and footer, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Allow to mount unmounted volumes.<\/li>\n<li>Allow to keep browsing while executing long-running external tools.<\/li>\n<li>Show the properties in a single column to save horizontal space.<\/li>\n<li>Bug-fixes and translation updates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to Install gThumb 3.11.4 in Ubuntu:<\/h3>\n<p>The software lacks a repository for Ubuntu packages. Besides building from the source tarball, I&#8217;ve made the packages into the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/apps\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unofficial PPA<\/a> for Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 21.04, Ubuntu 21.10, Linux Mint 20 and derivatives.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arconix-box arconix-box-red\"><i class='fa fa-2x pull-left fa-exclamation-triangle'><\/i><div class=\"arconix-box-content\">The Ubuntu 18.04 package is built <del>without AVIF\/HEIF support since it requires updated FFmpeg library (as dependency of libheif) that might break other packages in your system<\/del>.<\/div><\/div>\n<h5>1.) Add the PPA<\/h5>\n<p>To add the PPA, open terminal either from the &#8216;show applications&#8217; menu or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard.
