It&#8217;s <b>super fast<\/b> that you get instant result as you type. The app supports wildcard and RegEx, so users can use * and a series of characters to define filters.<\/p>\n<p>It by default uses traditional UI with menu bar. However, it provides option to enable client-side decorations so to look modern in GNOME desktop (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc). And double-clicking a search result will open with the default app. By right-clicking on a result, it allows to open with selected app, open folder, copy \/ cut, move to trash, and view the file properties.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fsearch-contextmenu.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fsearch-contextmenu-large.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"367\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-34728\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fsearch-contextmenu-large.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fsearch-contextmenu-large-300x184.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>How to Install FSearch in Ubuntu 20.04, 18.04, 21.10<\/h3>\n<p>The app has an <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~christian-boxdoerfer\/+archive\/ubuntu\/fsearch-stable\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">official Ubuntu PPA<\/a> contains the packages for all current Ubuntu releases, including the old <b>Ubuntu 16.04<\/b> and upcoming <b>Ubuntu 21.10<\/b>.<\/p>\n<h4>1. Add FSearch PPA<\/h4>\n<p>Firstly, either search for and open terminal from the Activities overview screen or press Ctrl+Alt+T key combination on keyboard. When terminal opens, paste the command below and hit run to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:christian-boxdoerfer\/fsearch-stable<\/pre>\n<p><i>sudo command need authentication, type user password (no visual feedback) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fsearch-ppa.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fsearch-ppa.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"189\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34730\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fsearch-ppa.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fsearch-ppa-300x95.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>2. Update system package cache:<\/h4>\n<p>For old Ubuntu releases, including Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 16.04, users need to manually refresh the package cache by running command in terminal. For Ubuntu 20.04 and higher, this is done automatically while adding PPA.<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<h4>3. Install FSearch<\/h4>\n<p>Finally install the file search utility via command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install fsearch<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/apt-fsearch.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/apt-fsearch.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"176\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/apt-fsearch.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/apt-fsearch-300x88.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once installed, launch it by searching from the overview screen and enjoy!<\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall FSearch:<\/h3>\n<p>To remove the tool, also open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove fsearch<\/pre>\n<p>And remove PPA either via &#8220;Software &#038; Updates -> Other Software&#8221; or by running command in terminal:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:christian-boxdoerfer\/fsearch-stable<\/pre>\n<p>In addition, FSearch provides official AUR for <b>Arch Linux<\/b> and Copr repository for <b>Fedora<\/b>. As well, there are unofficial packages for <b>NixOS<\/b> and <b>openSUSE<\/b>.
