The content in clipboard will be overwritten once you do another copy &#038; paste action. So, when you trying to find out what you&#8217;ve copied earlier, a clipboard manager will be helpful.<\/p>\n<h3>Install and Use GPaste:<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Keruspe\/GPaste\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GPaste<\/a> is a free open-source clipboard manager that keep a trace of what you\u2019re copying and pasting. It offers an indicator applet in system tray, allows you to search from history, single click to copy to clipboard, so to paste to anywhere as you want. And, a global switch is present to toggle tracking clipboard changes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/gpaste-indicator.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/gpaste-indicator.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"419\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34766\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/gpaste-indicator.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/gpaste-indicator-300x210.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By clicking on the home icon in the drop-down menu, it brings up the main app window. There you may do all the functions, including create, edit, and\/or delete content from the clipboard history. And, the hamburger icon on header bar allows to change the app settings and keyboard shortcuts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/gpaste-edit.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/gpaste-edit.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"260\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34767\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/gpaste-edit.png 594w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/gpaste-edit-300x131.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Install GPaste in Ubuntu Linux:<\/h4>\n<p>For Ubuntu with default GNOME desktop, open terminal either by searching from overview screen or by pressing <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/open-gnometerminal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/open-gnometerminal.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"270\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/open-gnometerminal.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/open-gnometerminal-300x135.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When terminal opens, run command to install the gpaste and extension packages in Ubuntu 18.04 &#038; Ubuntu 20.04:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install gnome-shell-extensions-gpaste<\/pre>\n<p>NOTE for Ubuntu 21.04 and Ubuntu 21.10, the package name has changed (<i>removed &#8216;s&#8217; in &#8216;extensions&#8217;<\/i>). So command will be:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-gpaste<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/apt-gpaste-extension.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/apt-gpaste-extension.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"244\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/apt-gpaste-extension.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/apt-gpaste-extension-300x122.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Other Linux, such as <b>Fedora<\/b> may install the clipboard manager via <code>sudo dnf install gnome-shell-extension-gpaste<\/code> command.<\/p>\n<h4>Restart Gnome Shell:<\/h4>\n<p>The indicator applet is provided by Gnome Extension, users have to restart GNOME Shell to allow working. To do so, press <b>Alt+F2<\/b> key combination on keyboard, type <b>r<\/b> in pop-up &#8216;Run a Command&#8217; dialog, and hit Enter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restart-gnome.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restart-gnome.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"471\" height=\"239\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restart-gnome.jpg 471w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/restart-gnome-450x228.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 471px) 100vw, 471px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Wayland session, you need to log out and back in to restart Gnome Shell.<\/p>\n<h4>Enable GPaste Indicator:<\/h4>\n<p>Search for and open gpaste from the overview screen will launch the main app window. For the indicator applet, enable it via <b>Gnome Extensions app<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, open terminal (press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard) and install Gnome Extensions app if you don&#8217;t have it:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-prefs<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apt-extension-prefs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apt-extension-prefs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"723\" height=\"238\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33778\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apt-extension-prefs.jpg 723w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apt-extension-prefs-300x99.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apt-extension-prefs-600x198.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 723px) 100vw, 723px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next, launch &#8216;Gnome Extensions&#8217; app, scroll down and turn on the slider icon to enable GPaste indicator:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toggle-gpaste-extension.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toggle-gpaste-extension.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"253\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34769\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toggle-gpaste-extension.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/toggle-gpaste-extension-300x127.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And click on the gear button to change it settings as you like. <\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s all.
