This quick tutorial shows you how to install the latest release of MKVToolNix (mkvmerge GUI) and receive future updates from its official repository in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr LTS.<\/b><\/p>\n

As you may know, MKVToolNix is a set of tools to create, alter and inspect Matroska files under Linux. <\/p>\n

As the program updates so frequently (almost one release per month), the MKVToolNix version available in Ubuntu repositories is always old. If you would like to receive latest features and bug fixes, using mkvtoolnix repository is recommended.<\/b><\/p>\n

1. Command Line Way:<\/b><\/p>\n

If you’re familiar with Linux command line, just a few commands will add the repository and install \/ upgrade to the latest MKVToolNix release in your Ubuntu.<\/p>\n

Press Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run below commands one by one:<\/p>\n

sudo add-apt-repository \"deb http:\/\/www.bunkus.org\/ubuntu\/trusty<\/b>\/ .\/\"\r\n\r\nwget -O - http:\/\/www.bunkus.org\/gpg-pub-moritzbunkus.txt | sudo apt-key add -\r\n\r\nsudo apt-get update\r\n\r\nsudo apt-get install mkvtoolnix mkvtoolnix-gui<\/pre>\n
After that, running regular Ubuntu updates (via Software Updater) will upgrade the app if there’s a new release.<\/p>\n

2. Hate Linux commands? Well here is a step by step guide in graphical<\/b><\/p>\n
1.) Open Unity Dash, search for and open Software & Updates<\/b><\/p>\n
2.) Under “Other Software” tab, click Add<\/b> button and then paste below line and click the Add Source<\/b> button.<\/p>\n

3.) Create an empty document and name it to gpg-pub-moritzbunkus.txt<\/b>. Paste all content from the keyring page<\/a> into the document and save it.<\/p>\n

4.) Import the document you just created in Authentication tab of Software & Updates<\/b>. <\/p>\n
