They are hidden settings! Here I&#8217;m going to show you how to configure them in Ubuntu 22.04.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/trash2desktop.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"390\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-38035\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/trash2desktop.webp 555w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/trash2desktop-300x211.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Single Command to Toggle Display Trash Icon on Desktop<\/h3>\n<p>The <code>gsettings<\/code> command is always the most efficient way to configure hidden settings in Ubuntu. <\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re OK with Linux commands, press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal and paste the command below into it.<\/p>\n<pre>gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.ding show-trash true<\/pre>\n<p>By hitting enter, you should see the trash can desktop icon immediately!<\/p>\n<p>To hide the icon again, simply run the command below to reset the key:<\/p>\n<pre>gsettings reset org.gnome.shell.extensions.ding show-trash<\/pre>\n<p><b>In addition<\/b>, you may hide the Trash icon from left dock via command:<\/p>\n<pre>gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock show-trash false<\/pre>\n<h3>Use Dconf Editor to toggle display Trash icon &#038; more Desktop Icons Settings:<\/h3>\n<p>The &#8216;<b>Dconf Editor<\/b>&#8216; tool provides a graphical interface to configure these hidden settings in Ubuntu. <\/p>\n<p>1.) Firstly, search for and install <b>Dconf Editor<\/b> in Ubuntu Software. <\/p>\n<p><i>Ubuntu Software always sucks! It does not launch in my case at the moment of writing this tutorial. So, there&#8217;s no screenshot for it.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>You may also run the command below in terminal to install the &#8216;Dconf Editor&#8217; tool.<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install dconf-editor<\/pre>\n<p>2.) When the app opens, navigate to <b>org\/gnome\/shell\/extensions\/ding<\/b>.
