However, Ubuntu&#8217;s software center (aka Snap Store, now renamed to App Center in 24.04) does not support this universal package format.<\/p>\n<p>If you like, Gnome Software can be a good alternative which has both <i>Snap<\/i> and <i>Flatpak<\/i> as well as <i>Deb<\/i> packages support.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38892\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/softwarecenter-flatpak1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38892\" class=\"size-large wp-image-38892\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/softwarecenter-flatpak1-600x316.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/softwarecenter-flatpak1-600x316.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/softwarecenter-flatpak1-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/softwarecenter-flatpak1-768x405.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/softwarecenter-flatpak1.jpg 1191w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-38892\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Install Flatpak apps via Gnome Software<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>(Optional) Step 1: Remove Snap Store<\/h3>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t need the default snap store, removing it will free up more than 100 MB memory.<\/p>\n<p>To do so, press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal, and run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo snap remove --purge snap-store<\/pre>\n<p>You may also <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2022\/04\/remove-snap-block-ubuntu-2204\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">follow this guide<\/a> to completely remove Snap and prevent Ubuntu from automatically installing them back.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38893\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/remove-snap.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38893\" class=\"size-large wp-image-38893\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/remove-snap-600x164.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/remove-snap-600x164.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/remove-snap-300x82.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/remove-snap.webp 759w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-38893\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Remove the default Ubuntu Software (Snap Store)<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Step 2: Install Gnome Software<\/h3>\n<p>Also in terminal window (<i>press Ctrl+Alt+T to open one<\/i>), run the command below to install Gnome Software as well as Flatpak support:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install --install-suggests gnome-software<\/pre>\n<p>Ubuntu seems to be a little bit self-centered. But, it does not add the Flathub.org repository, the best place to get Flatpak apps.<\/p>\n<p>To add it, run command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-38896\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/flathub-jammy-600x160.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/flathub-jammy-600x160.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/flathub-jammy-300x80.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/flathub-jammy-768x204.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/flathub-jammy.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>(Optional) Step 4: Change the app icon<\/h3>\n<p>Now you may press <i>Windows (Super)<\/i> key on keyboard, then search for and open Gnome Software to install apps in Deb, Snap, Flatpak, and use &#8220;<b><i>Software Install<\/i><\/b>&#8221; context menu option to install local files in the 3 formats.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38897\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38897\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38897\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/open-gnomesoftware.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/open-gnomesoftware.webp 580w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/open-gnomesoftware-300x145.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-38897\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gnome Software original app icon<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The app window looks almost same to the Ubuntu Software (Snap Store) but the icon does not.<\/p>\n<p>If you want, edit the app shortcut file by running command in terminal:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo gedit \/usr\/share\/applications\/org.gnome.Software.desktop<\/pre>\n<p>For Ubuntu 24.04, replace <code>gedit<\/code> with <code>gnome-text editor<\/code>. When the file opens, set <b>software-center<\/b> (or <b>app-center<\/b> for Ubuntu 24.04)as value for &#8220;<b>Icon<\/b>&#8220;.
