The official PPA is ready for Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, and Ubuntu 14.04.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/smplayer.sourceforge.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">SMPlayer<\/a> is a free and open-source GUI for MPlayer based on QT. It features <i>audio and video filters &#038; equalizer<\/i>, <i>multiple speed playback<\/i>, <i>configurable subtitles (Internet fetch)<\/i>, <i>build-in Radio, TV, and Youtube browser support<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/smplayer14-3-ubuntu.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/smplayer14-3-ubuntu.jpg\" alt=\"SMPlayer in Ubuntu\" width=\"580\" height=\"358\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/smplayer14-3-ubuntu.jpg 580w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/smplayer14-3-ubuntu-300x185.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new version 14.9 was released recently on September 7, 2014. According to the release note, the new release brings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>a new fix for Youtube playback<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>improved the option to search for subtitles<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>ability to shut down the computer after playback.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Install \/ Upgrade SMPlayer in Ubuntu:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The new release has been made into <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~rvm\/+archive\/ubuntu\/smplayer\" target=\"_blank\">the PPA<\/a>, available for Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 and derivatives.<\/p>\n<p>To add the PPA, press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal.
