The new release supports cloning your Ubuntu to another device. BTRFS filesystem support is also available in a fork release.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/timeshift\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TimeShift<\/a> is an open source application for Linux that provides functionality similar to the <i>System Restore<\/i> feature in Windows and the <i>Time Machine<\/i> tool in Mac OS.<\/p>\n<p>The utility takes incremental snapshots of the system using rsync and hard-links. These snapshots can be restored at a later date to undo all changes that were made to the system after the snapshot was taken.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/timeshift-clone-option.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4038\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/timeshift-clone-option.png\" alt=\"TimeShift Clone Option\" width=\"600\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/timeshift-clone-option.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/timeshift-clone-option-300x177.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The latest Timeshift v1.6 was released recently with below new features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">A &#8220;Clone&#8221; button to clone your current system to another device. You can clone your Ubuntu install to a portable device and boot on another machine.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Improved First Snapshot Size Estimation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Backups can now be saved on LUKS-encrypted partitions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The terminal output was cleaned up. Only important messages will be displayed<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The developer has also announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teejeetech.in\/2014\/10\/introducing-timeshift-btrfs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Timeshift BTRFS<\/b><\/a>, a fork release that supports for Linux system installed on BTRFS filesystem. It features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Super-fast snapshot creation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Snapshots takes ZERO space initially<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Super-fast restore<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Install Timeshift in Ubuntu:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Both rsync (normal version) and BTRFS version are available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~teejee2008\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">developer&#8217;s PPA<\/a> for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 14.10 and derivatives.<\/p>\n<p>Press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, paste the commands below and run one by one to add the PPA and install Timeshift packages:<\/p>\n<p>To install TimeShift:<\/p>\n<pre >sudo add-apt-repository ppa:teejee2008\/timeshift<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo apt-get update<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install timeshift<\/pre>\n<p><del datetime=\"2022-12-10T08:00:00+00:00\">To install TimeShift BTRFS version:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: none;\">sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:teejee2008\/ppa\r\n\r\nsudo apt-get update\r\n\r\nsudo apt-get install timeshift-btrfs<\/pre>\n<p><\/del><br \/>\nOnce properly installed, start it from Unity Dash, and you can receive future updates by running regular updates via Software Updater.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TimeShift, Linux system restore application, now is at v1.6.
