It&#8217;s easy to do the job via the system built-in magnifier tool.<\/p>\n<p>If you just want to magnify your web pages, press <code>Ctrl<\/code> and <code>+<\/code> key combination on keyboard can do the trick in the most web browsers. For others, Ubuntu has a built-in screen magnifier.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s definitely the GNOME feature that also works in Fedora Workstation, and other Linux with the desktop environment. Which, can be useful when recording video tutorials.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-40515\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/zoom-screen.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"330\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Enable\/Configure Screen Magnifier<\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to enable the feature in Ubuntu 22.04 since &#8220;Settings&#8221; (aka Gnome control center) now includes the toggle option.<\/p>\n<p>1. In next pop-up dialog, turn on\/off the slider icon to enable or disable magnifier. The magnification factor defaults to 1.00 which means no magnification. Crosshairs in custom color is available to make mouse pointer easy to follow. And, you may adjust the screen brightness, contrast, and color when magnifier enabled.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/crosshairs.webp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-40520\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/crosshairs.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"575\" height=\"421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/crosshairs.webp 575w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/crosshairs-300x220.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Keyboard shortcut to Enable\/Disable Magnifier<\/h3>\n<p>Besides using Gnome control center or Accessibility indicator (<i>the human body icon in system tray<\/i>), there&#8217;s a global keyboard shortcut <b>Super (<i>Windows<\/i> key) + Alt + 8<\/b> to turn on\/off the function quickly.<\/p>\n<p>The shortcut key is quite useful. You may change it to any other key combination by going to &#8220;Settings -&gt; Keyboard -&gt; View and Customize Shortcuts -&gt; Accessibility&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/zoom-keyshortcuts.webp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-40522\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/zoom-keyshortcuts-600x461.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/zoom-keyshortcuts-600x461.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/zoom-keyshortcuts-300x231.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/zoom-keyshortcuts-768x590.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/zoom-keyshortcuts.webp 1032w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, there are 2 more shortcuts <code>Super<\/code> + <code>Alt<\/code> + <code>=<\/code> and <code>Super<\/code> + <code>Alt<\/code> + <code>-<\/code>. Using them will set &#8220;Magnification factor&#8221; to 1.00 automatically. So, <b>Super + Alt + 8<\/b> will only turn on\/off the function but NO magnification, you can then press the 2 shortcut keys at any time to zoom in\/out.<\/p>\n<h4>Change Magnifier shortcut key via Linux command:<\/h4>\n<p>For those familiar with Linux command, it&#8217;s possible to change the shortcut key (<i>to <code>Alt<\/code>+<code>Super<\/code>+<code>7<\/code> for example<\/i>) using command:<\/p>\n<pre>gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys magnifier \"['&lt;Alt&gt;&lt;Super&gt;7']\"<\/pre>\n<p>And, reset the key if you want by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>gsettings reset org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys magnifier \"['&lt;Alt&gt;&lt;Super&gt;7']\"<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/set-magnifier-key.webp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-40523\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/set-magnifier-key-600x348.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/set-magnifier-key-600x348.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/set-magnifier-key-300x174.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/set-magnifier-key-768x445.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/set-magnifier-key.webp 858w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the previous commands, you may also replace <code>magnifier<\/code> with <code>magnifier-zoom-in<\/code> or <code>magnifier-zoom-out<\/code> to change the corresponding shortcut keys.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Want to zoom in or zoom out your screen content?
