{"id":4202,"date":"2014-11-07T08:39:33","date_gmt":"2014-11-07T08:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/?p=4202"},"modified":"2014-11-07T08:39:33","modified_gmt":"2014-11-07T08:39:33","slug":"nvidia-driver-340-58-ubuntu-1404","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2014\/11\/nvidia-driver-340-58-ubuntu-1404\/","title":{"rendered":"Nvidia Driver 340.58 Released, How to Install it in Ubuntu 14.04"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/nvidia_logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1267\" alt=\"Nvidia 340.58 PPA\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/nvidia_logo.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/nvidia_logo.jpg 250w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/nvidia_logo-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/object\/unix.html\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia Graphics Driver for Linux<\/a> has just released version 340.58 with new GPUs support and a few bug fixes.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The latest long lived branch release Nvidia 340.58 was released this Wednesday with below changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Added support for the following GPUs:\n<ul>\n<li>GeForce GT820M<\/li>\n<li>GeForce GTX 760A<\/li>\n<li>GeForce GTX 850A<\/li>\n<li>GeForce 810A<\/li>\n<li>GeForce 820A<\/li>\n<li>GeForce 840A<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Fixed a bug that could cause VT-switching to fail following a suspend, resume, and driver reload sequence.<\/li>\n<li>Fixed a bug that caused incorrect colors to be displayed on X screens running at depth 8 on some GPUs.<\/li>\n<li>Fixed a bug that prevented GPUs from being correctly recognized in MetaMode strings when identified by UUID.<\/li>\n<li>Implemented support for disabling indirect GLX context creation using the -iglx option available on X.Org server release 1.16 and newer.\u00a0 Note that future X.Org server releases may make the -iglx option the default. To re-enable support for indirect GLX on such servers, use the +iglx option.<\/li>\n<li>Added the &#8220;AllowIndirectGLXProtocol&#8221; X config option.\u00a0This option can be used to disallow use of GLX protocol.\u00a0See &#8220;Appendix B. X Config Options&#8221; in the README for more details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>How to Install \/ Upgrade to Nvidia 340.58:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~xorg-edgers\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" title=\"Xorg Edgers PPA\" target=\"_blank\">Xorg-Edgers PPA<\/a> provides the binary packages of the driver for Ubuntu 14.10, and Ubuntu 14.04.<\/p>\n<p>Press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run the commands below one by one:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:xorg-edgers\/ppa\n\nsudo apt-get update\n\nsudo apt-get install nvidia-340<\/pre>\n<p>Above commands will add the PPA and install the new driver. After that, restart your computer to take effect.<\/p>\n<p>If for some reason, the new driver does not work properly. Open terminal or log into command console (<b>Ctrl+Alt+F2<\/b>), run below commands to install ppa-purge and purge the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install ppa-purge\n\nsudo ppa-purge ppa:xorg-edgers\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p>Above commands should remove Nvidia Driver 340.58 and revert your graphics driver to original.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nvidia Graphics Driver for Linux has just released version 340.58 with new GPUs support and a few bug fixes.
