Xorg-Edgers PPA has made the binary packages available for Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 14.04<\/b><\/p>\n<p>According to the release highlights, the new driver added below new features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Added support for <i>GeForce GTX 970M<\/i> and <i>GeForce GTX 980M<\/i> GPUs.<\/li>\n<li>Added support for decoding VP8 video streams using the NVCUVID API on GPUs with VP8 hardware decode support.<\/li>\n<li>Added the ability to increase the operating voltage on certain GeForce GPUs in the GeForce GTX 400 series and later. Voltage adjustments are done at the user&#8217;s own risk.<\/li>\n<li>Added accelerated support for r8g8b8a8, r8g8b8x8, b8g8r8a8 and b8g8r8x8 RENDER formats.<\/li>\n<li>Added support for the <i>EGL_EXT_device_base<\/i>, <i>EGL_EXT_platform_device<\/i>, and <i>EGL_EXT_output_base<\/i> extensions.<\/li>\n<li>Added support in nvidia-settings for GTK+3 UI, an option <code>--use-gtk2<\/code> available to force the use of GTK+2 library.<\/li>\n<li>Support for the latest Linux Kernel 3.17 \/ 3.18 series.<\/li>\n<li>Performance improvements and various bug fixes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more changes and supported products, see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/download\/driverResults.aspx\/79720\/en-us\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>How to Install Nvidia 346.16 in Ubuntu:<\/h4>\n<p>Besides using the official installer package, you can install the new driver in Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, or Linux Mint 17 from the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~xorg-edgers\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" title=\"Xorg-Edgers PPA\" target=\"_blank\">xorg-edgers fresh X crack ppa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, paste the command below and hit run to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:xorg-edgers\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Update the package lists and install the new driver:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get update\n\nsudo apt-get install nvidia-346 nvidia-settings<\/pre>\n<p>(Optional) To purge the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:xorg-edgers\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p>To remove the Nvidia 346 driver:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get remove nvidia-346<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NVIDIA recently introduced the 346.xx graphics driver series for Linux with the release of the 346.16 beta driver.
