In Ubuntu Linux, we usually called them &#8220;workspaces&#8221;. For most common used applications, user may even let them start automatically in specified workspace to improve workflow efficiency.<\/p>\n<h3>For Ubuntu 22.04:<\/h3>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Firstly, search for and install &#8220;Extension Manager&#8221; from Ubuntu Software.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_42539\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42539\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/extension-manager-softwarecenter-600x355.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"355\" class=\"size-large wp-image-42539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/extension-manager-softwarecenter-600x355.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/extension-manager-softwarecenter-300x178.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/extension-manager-softwarecenter-768x454.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/extension-manager-softwarecenter.webp 845w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-42539\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Install Extension Manager in Ubuntu 22.04<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Once installed, press on <i>Super<\/i> (Windows logo key) on keyboard to open &#8216;Activities&#8217; overview. Then search for and launch the tool:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/launch-extensionmanager.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"281\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-39607\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/launch-extensionmanager.webp 548w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/launch-extensionmanager-300x154.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> When it opens, navigate to &#8220;Browse&#8221; tab, type &#8216;<i>Auto Move Windows<\/i>&#8216; in search box and hit Enter. Finally, click the install the extension.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/install-automove-windows-600x401.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43003\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/install-automove-windows-600x401.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/install-automove-windows-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/install-automove-windows-768x513.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/install-automove-windows.webp 922w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>4.<\/b> Once installed, navigate back to &#8216;Installed&#8217; tab in Extension Manager and click on the gear button for that extension you just installed. <\/p>\n<p>In pop-up dialog, use &#8216;+&#8217; icon to add apps and set the workspace numbers for each app.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/configure-automovewindows.webp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/configure-automovewindows-600x407.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43004\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/configure-automovewindows-600x407.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/configure-automovewindows-300x203.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/configure-automovewindows-768x520.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/configure-automovewindows.webp 980w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE 1<\/b>: The search function in app selection dialog seems broken, you have to browse through all apps manually.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE 2<\/b>: GNOME desktop by default has <i>only 2 workspaces<\/i>, and adds more automatically when the last is in use. <\/p>\n<p>To set workspace number to &#8216;3&#8217;, &#8216;4&#8217;, or bigger, open &#8220;Settings (GNOME Control Center) -> Multitasking&#8221;, enable &#8220;Fix number of workspaces&#8221; and set a number for it.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/set-workspaces-600x355.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"355\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43005\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/set-workspaces-600x355.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/set-workspaces-300x177.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/set-workspaces-768x454.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/set-workspaces.webp 1032w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>For old Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch Linux, etc<\/h3>\n<p>Other GNOME based Linux can also install the &#8220;Auto Move Windows&#8221; extension directly by using the on\/off switch in web browser.<\/p>\n<p>(<b>Ubuntu Only<\/b>) First, press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal.
