In case it doesn&#8217;t work for you, press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal and run command <code>sudo apt install libfuse2<\/code> to enable it.<\/p>\n<h4>Option 2: Flatpak<\/h4>\n<p>RawTherapee is also available as <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/en\/apps\/com.rawtherapee.RawTherapee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flatpak package<\/a> that runs in sandbox environment. The package works in most Linux on <code>amd64<\/code> and <code>arm64<\/code> CPU platforms.<\/p>\n<p>1. First, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and make sure the daemon package is installed by running command in Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04 and higher:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<p>Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 16.04 user can get the package from <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~flatpak\/+archive\/ubuntu\/stable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this PPA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-51015\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/apt-flatpak2604-700x483.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/apt-flatpak2604-700x483.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/apt-flatpak2604-300x207.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/apt-flatpak2604.webp 707w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2. Then, install Rawtherapee as Flatpak by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/com.rawtherapee.RawTherapee.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-51727\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/flatpak-rawtherapee2604-700x470.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/flatpak-rawtherapee2604-700x470.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/flatpak-rawtherapee2604-300x201.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/flatpak-rawtherapee2604-768x515.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/flatpak-rawtherapee2604.webp 899w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Like normal package, you can search for and launch the flatpak app from either &#8216;Activities&#8217; overview or system start menu depends on desktop environment.<\/p>\n<pre><\/pre>\n<h4>Option 3: Ubuntu PPA<\/h4>\n<p>For those who prefer the native <code>.deb<\/code> packages, there&#8217;s also an <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/rawtherapee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unofficial PPA<\/a> contains the packages for Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and Ubuntu 26.04. Also, the package support <code>amd64<\/code>, <code>arm64<\/code> and <code>armhf<\/code> CPU architecture types.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE: due to outdated system library, <code>librsvg-2.0<\/code> in the case, the Ubuntu 20.04 build is stuck at version 5.10.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. First, press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/rawtherapee<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rawtherapee-ppa.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45563\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rawtherapee-ppa-700x313.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rawtherapee-ppa-700x313.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rawtherapee-ppa-300x134.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rawtherapee-ppa-768x343.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rawtherapee-ppa.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. Linux Mint users need to manually refresh system package cache after adding PPA, though it&#8217;s done automatically in Ubuntu now.<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<p>3. Finally, install the RAW developer software by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install rawtherapee<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/apt-rawtherapee-jammy.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45564\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/apt-rawtherapee-jammy-700x322.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/apt-rawtherapee-jammy-700x322.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/apt-rawtherapee-jammy-300x138.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/apt-rawtherapee-jammy-768x354.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/apt-rawtherapee-jammy.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall RawTherapee<\/h3>\n<p>Depends on which package you installed, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command to uninstall the Flatpak:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data com.rawtherapee.RawTherapee<\/pre>\n<p>Also run <code>flatpak uninstall --unused<\/code> to clear useless runtime libraries.<\/p>\n<p>For the <code>.deb<\/code> package, remove it by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove rawtherapee rawtherapee-data<\/pre>\n<p>Also remove PPA, either by removing source line via &#8220;<code>Software &amp; Updates<\/code>&#8221; tool under <code>Other Software<\/code> tab, or by running command in terminal:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/rawtherapee<\/pre>\n<p>And, for the AppImage, just delete the file in your folder.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This tutorial shows how to install the latest version of RawTherapee (5.13 updated) in all current Ubuntu releases!
