The lightweight web browser that was default in Elementary OS and Bodhi Linux revived!<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Midori was a popular lightweight web browser used the WebKitGTK rendering engine and GTK UI toolkit. The development of the project was however discontinued more than 3 years ago. And, Ubuntu even removed it from system repository since Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Midori_(web_browser)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wikipedia<\/a>, the Midori project has been merged with the Astian Foundation in 2019. And, Astian announced a week ago that Midori browser is still alive!<\/p>\n<p><b>It&#8217;s now <del datetime=\"2025-01-08T12:02:15+00:00\">Chromium<\/del> Firefox based web browser features both desktop edition for Linux, macOS, and Windows, and mobile edition for Android.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The browser still aims to be <b>lightweight, fast and free<\/b>. Though, it so far uses DuckDuckGo as default. While Google, Bing, and Ecosia available for choice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to Install New Midori web browser in Ubuntu &amp; other Linux<\/h3>\n<p>Astian offers official Midori packages for Linux through <b>AppImage<\/b> and <b>.deb<\/b> package.<\/p>\n<h4>Option 1: AppImage<\/h4>\n<p>AppImage is a portable package format without installation required. Just select download it from its website:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/astian.org\/midori-browser\/linux\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Midori for Linux<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Then, right-click on AppImage in file manager. Open &#8216;Properties&#8217; dialog and grant &#8216;execute as program&#8217; permission. It won&#8217;t install in my case in Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 11 either via double-clicking or using <code>apt install<\/code> command.
