See the <a href=\"https:\/\/discourse.gnome.org\/t\/window-focus-call-for-testing\/13277\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GNOME Discourse page<\/a> for more about it.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Gnome, the default desktop environment in Ubuntu &amp; Fedora Workstation, is going to replace the app menu with a new window animation, for indicating window focus.<\/p>\n<p>Meaning it will remove the app menu for current window, in the top-bar beside &#8216;Activities&#8217; button. Because, it&#8217;s always confusing users who are new to GNOME.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_43556\" style=\"width: 434px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/remove-appmenu.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43556\" class=\"size-full wp-image-43556\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/remove-appmenu.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"424\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/remove-appmenu.webp 424w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/remove-appmenu-300x142.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 424px) 100vw, 424px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-43556\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gnome to remove app menu, instead using a window animation<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>Instead, when switching workspaces, closing a window, or pressing <i>Super + Tab<\/i>, it will perform a short animation on newly focused window.<\/b> As the GIF below shows you, it&#8217;s a window animation that scales up the window and then scales back, indicating that the window is on focus.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/focus-animation.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-43561\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/focus-animation.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1124\" height=\"692\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The downside so far is that it&#8217;s missing the behavior to indicate the process of launching a large or slow application &#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>How to Install the new Window Animation<\/h3>\n<p>The new function is available so far as a Gnome Shell extension called &#8220;<b>Focus Indicator<\/b>&#8220;, for testing purpose in GNOME 43.
