Here are the new features and how to install guide for Ubuntu\/Linux Mint based systems.<\/p>\n<p>Kodi 20, code-name &#8216;Nexus&#8217;, is a big release with 4,600 commits since the last v19. It features <b>AV1 media decoding support<\/b> for several platforms. As well, it allows add-ons using <code>inputsream.adaptive<\/code> to play AV1 streams.<\/p>\n<p>For Windows user, the release has implemented the <b>full HDR support<\/b>, though it&#8217;s not available in non-Desktop, i.e. UWP Store (Xbox) versions. They are Ubuntu PPA contains the native <code>.deb<\/code> packages and Flatpak package works in most Linux.<\/p>\n<h3>Option 1: Install Kodi via Ubuntu PPA<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kodi.tv\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kodi website<\/a> provides the downloads for all supported platforms.<\/p>\n<p>For Ubuntu and Linux Mint users, the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~team-xbmc\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official PPA<\/a> repository is one of the best choices to install the media player. So far, it supports Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Linux Mint 20\/21 on Intel\/AMD platforms.<\/p>\n<p><b>UPDATE: The Ubuntu PPA packages lag behind a bit. It contains Kodi 20.2, while the latest so far has reached v20.4. And only a few plugins have ported to v20.x.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. First, open terminal by pressing <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/kodi-ppa-jammy.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43503\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/kodi-ppa-jammy-600x214.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/kodi-ppa-jammy-600x214.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/kodi-ppa-jammy-300x107.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/kodi-ppa-jammy.webp 766w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. <em>Software Updater<\/em> may not upgrade the media center if an old version was installed in Ubuntu 22.04. Instead it show &#8216;Partial Updates&#8217; issue.<\/p>\n<p>As a workaround, either run apt install command below:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install kodi kodi-bin<\/pre>\n<p>Or run sudo apt full-upgrade to install all available updates (you may still need to install kodi-bin manually). ppa:team-xbmc\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p>Or manually remove the software package via command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove kodi kodi-bin --autoremove<\/pre>\n<p>And remove the PPA via command as you prefer:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:team-xbmc\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p>For the <b>Flatpak package<\/b>, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command to uninstall:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data tv.kodi.Kodi<\/pre>\n<p>Also, run command <code>flatpak uninstall --unused<\/code> will free up some disk space by removing useless runtime libraries.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kodi media center finally announced the new major 20.0 release!
