Well, here&#8217;s step by step howto using DLNA\/UPnP. Tested with Ubuntu 14.04 and LG E960 (Nexus 4).<\/b><\/p>\n<p>First take a look at result. Android phone plays music, and sound comes out of my Ubuntu laptop&#8217;s speaker.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/stream-sound-android2ubuntu.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/stream-sound-android2ubuntu-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"Steam music from Android to Ubuntu\" width=\"610\" height=\"342\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/stream-sound-android2ubuntu-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/stream-sound-android2ubuntu-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/stream-sound-android2ubuntu.jpg 1366w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h5>To get started, first do below steps in Ubuntu machine:<\/h5>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open Terminal from the Dash\/Menu, run below command to install rygel, PulseAudio Preferences, and Volume Control utilities.<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install rygel rygel-gst-launch rygel-tracker rygel-playbin rygel-preferences wavpack paprefs pavucontrol<\/pre>\n<p>Type in your user password when it asks and answer yes to confirm the install process.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/install-rygel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/install-rygel.jpg\" alt=\"Install PulseAudio Preferences utility\" width=\"600\" height=\"198\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/install-rygel.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/install-rygel-300x99.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b>Open <b>PulseAudio Preferences<\/b> utility from the Unity Dash or Application Menu. When it opens, check to enable every option under <b>Network Server<\/b> tab.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/setup-pulseaudio-server.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/setup-pulseaudio-server.jpg\" alt=\"Setup DLNA\/UPnP server\" width=\"600\" height=\"330\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/setup-pulseaudio-server.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/setup-pulseaudio-server-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Finally start the rygel service by running command <code>rygel<\/code> in terminal window so that your Android phone can see Ubuntu machine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/start-rygel-service.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/start-rygel-service.jpg\" alt=\"Start Rygel Service in Ubuntu\" width=\"600\" height=\"185\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/start-rygel-service.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/start-rygel-service-300x92.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Leave the terminal window open as long as you want to stream the music plays.<\/p>\n<h5>Now do below steps in Android device:<\/h5>\n<p>First you need a music player with DLNA\/UPnP support. Here I installed the BubbleUPnP from Google Play.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open the DLNA\/UPnP player\/client and select Ubuntu machine as audio renderer. In my case, it&#8217;s <b>Audio\/Video playback on trusty<\/b> (see the picture below).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/select-device.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/select-device-180x300.jpg\" alt=\"Select Renderer\" width=\"180\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/select-device-180x300.jpg 180w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/select-device.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Restart Ubuntu machine and start the <code>rygel<\/code> service if you don&#8217;t see it in the drop-down list.<\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Now browser music from library (Both local and remote libraries are OK), add to playlist and play them. Depends on the required bandwidth, there might be a time delay before music starts playing.<\/p>\n<p>Here the sound from Ubuntu machine&#8217;s speaker?
