Here&#8217;s how to install it in <b>Ubuntu 20.04<\/b>, <b>Ubuntu 22.04<\/b>, <b>Ubuntu 22.10<\/b> and their based systems.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gitlab.xfce.org\/apps\/parole\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parole<\/a> is a modern simple video player based on the GStreamer. It&#8217;s an free opensource app fit well in the lightweight XFCE desktop, though also works in other Linux desktops.<\/p>\n<p>The new version 4.18.0 was released last night. Besides building from the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.xfce.org\/src\/apps\/parole\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">source tarball<\/a>, XUbuntu, Linux Lite, Linux Mint, and of course other Ubuntu based systems can get it from this <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unofficial PPA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE: Parole seems not working good in GNOME desktop with Wayland session. Meaning Ubuntu and Fedora workstation with default desktop environment need to switch to classic Xorg for this app.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. First, press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard or search for and open terminal window from start menu. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.<\/i> The PPA support for <em>Ubuntu 20.04 and higher with both amd64 and arm64\/armhf<\/em> cpu architecture types.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/jammy-appsppa.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-39192\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/jammy-appsppa-600x319.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/jammy-appsppa-600x319.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/jammy-appsppa-300x160.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/jammy-appsppa-768x408.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/jammy-appsppa.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. Some Ubuntu based systems may need to manually update package index after adding PPA. To do so, run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<p>3.
