Well, Plank is the open-source project to approach the job.<\/p>\n<p>Below is my Unity desktop with Plank dock (Unity Launcher is hidden).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plank-dock-launcher.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plank-dock-launcher-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"OS X like dock in Ubuntu\" width=\"610\" height=\"342\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plank-dock-launcher-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plank-dock-launcher-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plank-dock-launcher.jpg 1365w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Plank is meant to be the simplest dock on the planet. The goal is to provide just what a dock needs and absolutely nothing more.<\/p>\n<p>To install it, open terminal from the Dash (or press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b>). When it opens, run the commands below one by one:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ricotz\/docky\n\nsudo apt-get update\n\nsudo apt-get install plank<\/pre>\n<p>Above commands add the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ricotz\/+archive\/ubuntu\/docky\" target=\"_blank\">developer&#8217;s PPA<\/a>, update system cache and finally install the dock. Works on Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, and the two LTS (Ubuntu 14.04 &#038; 12.04).<\/p>\n<p>Once installed, start the dock from the Dash \/ Menu. You can add app shortcuts by opening an application and then pin the shortcut to dock from its context menu.<\/p>\n<p><b>To configure the dock,<\/b> right click on the first icon on the dock and select <b>Preferences<\/b>.
