Here&#8217;s how to install it in Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 22.10, Ubuntu 23.04 via PPA.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Darktable 4.4.0 is a big release with many new features. Though, it&#8217;s a containerized software package run in sandbox.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-snap440.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-44093\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-snap440-600x365.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-snap440-600x365.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-snap440-300x182.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-snap440-768x467.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-snap440-1536x934.webp 1536w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-snap440-2048x1245.webp 2048w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-snap440-1320x802.webp 1320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Option 2: Flatpak<\/h4>\n<p>The latest Darktable is also available to install as <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/org.darktable.Darktable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flatpak<\/a>, another software package run in sandbox.<\/p>\n<p>Ubuntu user can install the package, by running the 2 commands below one by one:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/org.darktable.Darktable.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<h4>Option 3: Native .deb package via OBS (Official)<\/h4>\n<p>Darktable provides official packages for Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, and Ubuntu through OBS (openSUSE Build Service).<\/p>\n<p>User can either grab the package directly, or add the sources repository into system via the link below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/software.opensuse.org\/download.html?project=graphics:darktable&amp;package=darktable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Darktable OBS<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><i>NOTE: the OBS is not yet updated at the moment of writing.<\/i><\/p>\n<h4>Option 4: Ubuntu PPA<\/h4>\n<p>For those who prefer the classic Ubuntu PPA, I&#8217;ve upload the new release package into <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/darktable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this PPA<\/a> for Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 23.10 and Ubuntu 23.04.<\/p>\n<p><i><u>NOTE: Sorry for being lazy. There&#8217;s no updated package for Ubuntu 20.04 in this PPA. The new release needs gcc-12 for building the package, which is not available in 20.04.<\/u><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> First, press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run command to add PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/darktable<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-ppa-jammy.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-44094\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-ppa-jammy-600x353.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"353\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-ppa-jammy-600x353.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-ppa-jammy-300x177.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-ppa-jammy-768x452.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/darktable-ppa-jammy.webp 956w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Linux Mint needs to update system package cache manually after adding PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Finally, install Darktable via command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install darktable<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/apt-darktable-jammy.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-44095\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/apt-darktable-jammy-600x320.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/apt-darktable-jammy-600x320.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/apt-darktable-jammy-300x160.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/apt-darktable-jammy-768x410.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/apt-darktable-jammy.webp 1015w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall Darktable<\/h3>\n<p>Depends on which package your installed, remove Darktable via one of the commands below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For Snap package, just remove it from Ubuntu Software.<\/li>\n<li>For Flatpak package, run command:\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data org.darktable.Darktable<\/pre>\n<p>Then run <code>flatpak uninstall --unused<\/code> to remove unused runtime libraries.<\/li>\n<li>To remove official package or PPA package, run command:\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove darktable<\/pre>\n<p>And remove the Ubuntu PPA repository if you want via command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/darktable<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Darktable got a new major release few days ago!
