It allows one computer to access a command-line interface on a remote host.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Telnet is insecure because the communication is not encrypted, your password and all other data will be transmitted as clear text. If possible avoid Telnet, and use <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2014\/04\/enable-ssh-ubuntu-14-04-trusty-tahr\/\" title=\"Enable SSH in Ubuntu 14.04\" target=\"_blank\">Secure Shell (SSH)<\/a> instead.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>If you really want to enable the Telnet in Ubuntu, just run the command below in text console (terminal) to install Telnet server:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install xinetd telnetd<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/install-telnet-server.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/install-telnet-server.jpg\" alt=\"Install Telnet Server in Ubuntu\" width=\"600\" height=\"261\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4414\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/install-telnet-server.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/install-telnet-server-300x130.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Telnet service is started automatically once the installation is done.
