Here&#8217;s how to try it out in Ubuntu.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/audacity\/audacity\/releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">project release<\/a> page, the new release now features several music related features, such as switching between hh:mm:ss time and Beats &amp; Measures, and time-stretching clips to align them to a song&#8217;s tempo.<\/p>\n<p>The release also features Time stretching. Just hold &#8220;Alt&#8221; (macOS: Option) while hovering over the top third of a clip edge to stretch it.<\/p>\n<p>The 3.4.0 also features a new export dialog with easier access to options such as sample rate and custom mapping (for 5.1 or 7.1 audio). Additionally, the &#8220;Browse&#8221; button uses the native file browser now!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_44592\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-new-exportdialog.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44592\" class=\"size-large wp-image-44592\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-new-exportdialog-600x375.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-new-exportdialog-600x375.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-new-exportdialog-300x187.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-new-exportdialog-768x480.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-new-exportdialog.webp 1140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-44592\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New Export dialog<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Other changes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>always uses Joint Stereo mode for MP3.<\/li>\n<li>Simplified pasting logic, and stereo tracks.<\/li>\n<li>uses Conan 2.<\/li>\n<li>Built-in Opus support.<\/li>\n<li>And stability fixes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to Install Audacity 3.4.0 Beta:<\/h3>\n<p><b>Option 1: AppImage<\/b><br \/>\nIt provides official macOS .dmg, Windows .exe, and Linux .AppImage packages available to download at the link below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/audacity\/audacity\/releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Audacity<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Linux, click expand the &#8220;<b>Assets<\/b>&#8221; section and choose download the <b>.AppImage<\/b> package.<\/p>\n<p>Then, right-click on the .AppImage file and go to its &#8216;Properties&#8217; dialog. Add executable permission by enable &#8216;<i>allow executing file as program<\/i>&#8216;. Finally, right-click on it and select &#8220;Run&#8221; to launch Audacity.<\/p>\n<p><b>Option 2: Ubuntu PPA<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For choice, I&#8217;ve uploaded the new release package into <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/audacity-unstable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unofficial PPA<\/a> for x86_64 (amd64) bit Ubuntu 22.04, 23.04, and Ubuntu 23.10 support.<\/p>\n<p>1. First, press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal. When terminal opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/audacity-unstable<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-unstable-ppa.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-44591\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-unstable-ppa-600x245.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-unstable-ppa-600x245.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-unstable-ppa-300x123.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-unstable-ppa-768x314.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/audacity-unstable-ppa.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. For Linux Mint users, you may manually update system package cache by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<p>3. Finally, install Audacity 3.4.0 Beta via command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install audacity audacity-data<\/pre>\n<h3>Uninstall:<\/h3>\n<p>To uninstall Audacity 3.4.0 Beta, you have 2 choices:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Purge the Ubuntu PPA, which also downgrade the installed packages to stock versions:\n<pre>sudo apt install ppa-purge &amp;&amp; sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/audacity-unstable<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Or, remove Audacity package by running command:\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove audacity audacity-data<\/pre>\n<p>Then, remove the Ubuntu PPA via command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/audacity-unstable<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Audacity audio editor released the Beta version of the next 3.4.0.
