It retains the default Chromium experience as closely as possible. But disables functionality specific to Google domains, including Google Safe Browsing, blocks internal requests to Google at runtime by replacing Google web domains in the source code with non-existent alternatives, and strips binaries from the source code.<\/p>\n<p>It also features tweaks to enhance privacy, control, and transparency. However, almost all of these features must be manually activated or enabled.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/ungoogled-chromium-about.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-44796\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/ungoogled-chromium-about-600x429.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/ungoogled-chromium-about-600x429.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/ungoogled-chromium-about-300x215.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/ungoogled-chromium-about-768x549.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/ungoogled-chromium-about.webp 867w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>How to Install Ungoogled Chromium in Ubuntu<\/h3>\n<p>The project refers to <a href=\"https:\/\/software.opensuse.org\/\/download.html?project=home%3Aungoogled_chromium&amp;package=ungoogled-chromium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OBS repository<\/a> for Debian and Ubuntu packages, however, no longer updated for long time.<\/p>\n<p>As far as I know, there are still community maintained Flatpak and Ubuntu PPA available for choices.<\/p>\n<p><b>Option 1: Flatpak package<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flatpak package<\/a> can be installed in most Linux, but run in sandbox and take more disk space due to run-time library.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Tips: Linux Mint 21 can directly search for and install the Flatpak package from Software Manager.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>All current Ubuntu releases can open terminal (<b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b>) and run 2 commands below to install the browser as Flatpak:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, run command to install the flatpak daemon:\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-39141\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy-600x229.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy-600x229.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy-300x115.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy-768x294.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy.webp 777w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Then, install the browser package by running command:\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/flatpak-ungoogled-chromium.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-44797\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/flatpak-ungoogled-chromium-600x447.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/flatpak-ungoogled-chromium-600x447.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/flatpak-ungoogled-chromium-300x223.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/flatpak-ungoogled-chromium-768x572.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/flatpak-ungoogled-chromium.webp 885w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you&#8217;re first time installing a software package as Flatpak, then you need log out and back in to make the app icon visiable.<\/p>\n<p><b>Option 2: Ubuntu PPA<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~xtradeb\/+archive\/ubuntu\/apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">xtradebs PPA<\/a> also contains the browser packages for amd64 (Intel\/AMD), arm64\/armhf (Apple Silicon\/Raspberry Pi) CPU architecture types.<\/p>\n<p>First, press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal. Then, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xtradeb\/apps<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password when it asks (no asterisk feedback) and hit Enter to continue<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/xtradeb-ppa.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-44332\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/xtradeb-ppa-600x407.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/xtradeb-ppa-600x407.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/xtradeb-ppa-300x203.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/xtradeb-ppa-768x521.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/xtradeb-ppa.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Linux Mint 21 users need to manually refresh system package cache after adding PPA.
