And, it now supports middle click actions to control video playback:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>middle click to pause\/resume playback.<\/li>\n<li>middle wheel scrolling over tray icon to volume up\/down.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-trayicons.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-44834\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-trayicons.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"538\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-trayicons.webp 538w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-trayicons-300x151.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other changes in the release include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Allow to built without X11 support and therefore whithout XfceSMClient.<\/li>\n<li>Fix critical warning and memory leak<\/li>\n<li>mpris2: Properly disconnect signal handlers<\/li>\n<li>honor gtk-dialogs-use-header as Xfce 4.18 is CSD opt-in.<\/li>\n<li>Small UI Improvements and many translation updates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-4181.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-44835\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-4181-600x369.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-4181-600x369.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-4181-300x184.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-4181-768x472.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/parole-4181.webp 866w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>How to Install Parole 4.18.1:<\/h3>\n<p>At the moment of writing, there&#8217;s no binary package of Parole 4.18.1 for Ubuntu.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s not hard to compile the package from the source (tested in XUbuntu 22.04):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, open terminal and run command to install the build dependency packages:\n<pre>sudo apt install debhelper-compat gtk-doc-tools intltool libclutter-1.0-dev libclutter-gtk-1.0-dev libdbus-1-dev libdbus-glib-1-dev libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-dev libgstreamer1.0-dev libgtk-3-dev libnotify-dev libtagc0-dev libxfce4ui-2-dev libxfconf-0-dev pkg-config xfce4-dev-tools<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Then, download the source tarball by going to XFCE website via the link below:\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.xfce.org\/src\/apps\/parole\/4.18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Parole 4.18.1<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Extract the source tarball, then right-click on the new generated folder, and select &#8220;Open in Terminal&#8221;. Finally, run the 3 commands below one by one to compile it from source:\n<pre>.\/configure<\/pre>\n<pre>make -j4<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo make install<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>NOTE:<\/b> It by default installs the <code>parole<\/code> executable to <code>\/usr\/local\/bin<\/code> without overriding the pre-installed one. Meaning you&#8217;ll have 2 versions of the media player installed in your system, while the app icon in menu will launch the newer 4.18.1 version.<\/p>\n<p>(<b>Uninstall<\/b>) By opening the source folder in terminal, you may also uninstall the media player by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo make uninstall<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Parole, the lightweight media player for XFCE Desktop, released version 4.18.1 few days ago.
