They include &#8220;Enter Location&#8221; menu option, sidebar toggle button in sidebar, and badge icon to folder icon in &#8216;properties&#8217; dialog.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE:<\/b> The new features introduced in this post are merged to master branch but <b>NOT<\/b> released yet! They may be available in next GNOME versions, backport to current, or even removed!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Enter Location option<\/h3>\n<p>As you may know, Nautilus has a keyboard shortcut <b>Ctrl+L<\/b>. It makes the location bar become a select-able text, point to current folder path. This feature is quite useful, when you want to copy the path to current working directory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nautilus-enter-location.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45047\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nautilus-enter-location-700x365.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nautilus-enter-location-700x365.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nautilus-enter-location-300x156.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nautilus-enter-location-768x400.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nautilus-enter-location.webp 838w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since GNOME 43, it added a &#8220;<strong>\u22ee<\/strong>&#8221; icon in the right of Nautilus location bar. Which, provides some menu options, including &#8220;<b>Copy Location<\/b>&#8221; to copy path to current folder as easy as a mouse click.<\/p>\n<p>In the master branch, now a new &#8220;<b>Enter Location<\/b>&#8221; option is added to the &#8216;<strong>\u22ee<\/strong>&#8216; menu do the same thing for <code>Ctrl+L<\/code> keyboard shortcut. So, you have more choices without remembering keyboard shortcuts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/enterlocation-option.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-45048\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/enterlocation-option-240x300.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/enterlocation-option-240x300.webp 240w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/enterlocation-option-560x700.webp 560w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/enterlocation-option.webp 595w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Individual Folder Icon is Changable<\/h3>\n<p>Besides switching icon theme or using plugin (e.g., <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2023\/10\/change-folder-color-ubuntu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Folder Color<\/a>), <b>the icon for individual folder is changeable in Nautilus<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>However, many users include me didn&#8217;t know this feature!<\/p>\n<p>Just, right-click on a folder and go to its &#8216;Properties&#8217; dialog. Then, click the icon in the &#8216;Basic&#8217; tab will open the file chooser dialog, allowing to apply a new icon for this folder. Re-do the operations, and you&#8217;ll see a &#8220;Revert&#8221; button in the file-chooser.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/folder-properties.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-45050\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/folder-properties-248x300.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/folder-properties-248x300.webp 248w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/folder-properties.webp 414w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 248px) 100vw, 248px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To make user easy to find out this feature, the folder icon in &#8216;Properties&#8217; now has a little pencil badge in the bottom right, indicating that it&#8217;s editable! After changing the icon, a cross mark badge will be added, to easily revert back.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_45051\" style=\"width: 205px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-45051\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45051\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"195\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-45051\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">folder icon is changeable in Properties<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Toggle button in sidebar<\/h3>\n<p>Since GNOME 43, the left sidebar will go hidden automatically when resizing file window to be narrow. In while, it provides a toggle icon in top-left to show it in floating style.<\/p>\n<p>However, in GNOME 45 the toggle button will disappear once clicking on it to show the sidebar. User has to click anywhere outside to hide the sidebar again.
