Though, it&#8217;s later added back to system repository, thanks to open-source community&#8217;s work by porting it to GTK3.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Sadly, the development of <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/shutter-project\/shutter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shutter project<\/a> is slowing down, and many features do NOT work in Ubuntu 22.04 + with default Wayland session, include capturing selection area and app window. And, it even refuses to launch in Ubuntu 23.10.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_45083\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-45083\" class=\"size-large wp-image-45083\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-700x521.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-700x521.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-300x223.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-768x572.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland.webp 1277w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-45083\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shutter screenshot tool and built-in editor<\/p><\/div>\n<p>For lovers of Shutter screenshot tool, besides switching back to classic Xorg session, there&#8217;s now an <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mvivarelli\/shutter-on-wayland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open-source fork<\/a> to make the screenshotting features work on Wayland.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<i>this thing that Shutter does not work on Wayland started to bother me &#8220;a lot&#8221; and so I decided to invest some time to resolve this question the base idea was to leverage gnome-screenshot command line utility while maintaining the very same user interface and behavior.<\/i>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And, there&#8217;s a Youtube video about the Shutter on Wayland:<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Shutter on Wayland\" width=\"610\" height=\"343\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Jd-MLpj9o84?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Install the new Shutter in Ubuntu 22.04\/23.10 with default Wayland<\/h3>\n<p>NOTE: The new &#8220;Shutter on Wayland&#8221; so far only brings back basic screenshot feature. Plugins and capture menu are still not working in my test.<\/p>\n<p>1. The developer provides a <code>.deb<\/code> package for Ubuntu 23.10, which also works good in my test in Ubuntu 22.04.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mvivarelli\/shutter-on-wayland\/raw\/master\/shutter-on-wayland_0.99.4-6_all.deb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Shutter (.deb)<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><i>For the time being, the link button above may not work in future. If so, check the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mvivarelli\/shutter-on-wayland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">github project page<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>2. If you have installed old Shutter package from system repository, then remove it first by opening terminal (<code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code>) and run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove shutter<\/pre>\n<p>3. Finally, install the downloaded package, either by double-clicking via &#8220;<i>Software Install<\/i>&#8220;, or by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>right-click on blank area of <i>Downloads<\/i> folder, then click &#8220;Open in Terminal&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>finally, run command to install the local deb package:\n<pre>sudo apt install .\/shutter-on-wayland*.deb<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-deb.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45084\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-deb-700x532.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-deb-700x532.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-deb-300x228.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-deb-768x584.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shutter-onwayland-deb.webp 1046w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tips: if you messed up the system version of Shutter and Shutter on wayland, the &#8216;Selection&#8217; and &#8216;Window&#8217; button may be grayed out.
