There&#8217;s however no easy way to install it in Ubuntu, besides building from the source.<\/p>\n<p>To make life easier, I&#8217;ve built the package into this <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/e17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unofficial PPA<\/a>. So, you can easily try it out in Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, and\/or Ubuntu 23.10.<\/p>\n<p>Changes in Enlightenment 0.26.0 include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Add DDC option to backlight settings (for external monitor)<\/li>\n<li>Bigger task previews<\/li>\n<li>Add watermark to wl mode<\/li>\n<li>Support new eet disk sync API to ensure config it stored<\/li>\n<li>Support action desktop files in EFM to add file actions<\/li>\n<li>Add org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver inhibit support<\/li>\n<li>See the official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enlightenment.org\/news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release note<\/a> for more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/about-e26.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45301\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/about-e26-700x438.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/about-e26-700x438.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/about-e26-300x188.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/about-e26-768x480.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/about-e26.webp 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>How to Install Enlightenment 0.26.0 (E26) via PPA<\/h3>\n<p>The packages in PPA are backported from <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/debian\/+source\/e17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Debian Unstable<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/ubuntu\/noble\/+source\/e17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ubuntu 24.04<\/a> (both built with same rules).<\/p>\n<p>The only changes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>disable <code>jpeg-xl<\/code> for 22.04 &amp; 20.04, due to missing dependency in system repository.<\/li>\n<li>rename to <code>enlightenment-xorg.desktop<\/code> to display Xorg session in login screen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And, the PPA and package are named &#8216;<code>e17<\/code>&#8216;, because it&#8217;s in use in Debian and Ubuntu system repository.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> First, press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to open terminal. When terminal opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/e17<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e17-ppa.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45298\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e17-ppa-700x296.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e17-ppa-700x296.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e17-ppa-300x127.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e17-ppa-768x325.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e17-ppa.webp 822w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Linux Mint user needs to manually refresh system package cache, though it done automatically while adding PPA in Ubuntu since 20.04.<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Finally, either install E26 by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install enlightenment<\/pre>\n<p>Or, just upgrade all the packages if you have old E23 or E25 installed:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt upgrade<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apt-enlightenment.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45299\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apt-enlightenment-700x437.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apt-enlightenment-700x437.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apt-enlightenment-300x187.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apt-enlightenment-768x480.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apt-enlightenment.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When done successfully installed the packages, log out and select back in with &#8220;<code>Enlightenment<\/code>&#8221; session.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e26-sessions.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45303\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e26-sessions-700x358.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e26-sessions-700x358.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e26-sessions-300x154.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e26-sessions-768x393.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/e26-sessions.webp 844w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall Enlightenment<\/h3>\n<p>If you want to downgrade Enlightenment to the stock version in system repository, run command to purge the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install ppa-purge &amp;&amp; sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/e17<\/pre>\n<p>To completely uninstall the desktop packages, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove enlightenment-data libeina1a libelementary-data<\/pre>\n<p>Also remove the Ubuntu PPA by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/e17<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This simple tutorial shows how to install the last Enlightenment desktop 0.26.0 in Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 20.04, and Ubuntu 23.10 via PPA.
