Meaning it&#8217;s release in February, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The release added <b>better support for Qt-based UI variants<\/b>. It automatically switches to dark app color and dark icon theme for KDE Plasma when the desktop is set to dark style.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice242.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45407\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice242-700x451.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice242-700x451.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice242-300x193.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice242-768x495.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice242.webp 879w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>LibreOffice Writer in the release now uses same line breaking algorithm, that&#8217;s introduced as default in MS Word 2013 and later, which reduce space spaces within justified lines by up to 20%.<\/p>\n<p>Linkable elements can now be drag-and-dropped from the Navigator onto a text selection to use the selection as the hyperlink text. And, comments can now use styles, makes it easier to modify the formatting of all comments at once.<\/p>\n<p>The Calc app now has a new &#8220;<code>Column\/Row Highlighting<\/code>&#8221; option under <code>Tools<\/code> -&gt; <code>Options<\/code> -&gt; <code>LibreOffice Calc<\/code> -&gt; <code>View<\/code>. The Functions sidebar deck now includes a search field. Scientific format now supports and saves to ODF. And, it got an option enable bluetooth remote control without (currently insecure) WiFi server.<\/p>\n<p>LibreOffice MATH now support setting and rendering a formula&#8217;s Right-to-Left direction. Though, new major release can take few weeks (probably due to test purpose) to be made into PPA.<\/p>\n<p>If you can&#8217;t wait, either install the Snap package from Ubuntu Software (or App Center). It&#8217;s not updated at the moment of writing, but will be available soon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice-snap.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45410\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice-snap-700x420.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice-snap-700x420.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice-snap-300x180.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice-snap-768x461.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/libreoffice-snap.webp 1087w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For choice, you may install the Flatpak package, by running the 2 commands below one by one in terminal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> to enable Flatpak support:\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Then, install LibreOffice as Flatpak:\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/org.libreoffice.LibreOffice.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>NOTE: Install LibreOffice Snap or Flatpak package in Ubuntu, will cause duplicate app icons in start menu or &#8216;Activities&#8217; overview search results<\/b>. Without uninstalling the pre-installed LibreOffice package, you can hide the app icons by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>cd \/usr\/share\/applications\/ &amp;&amp; for file in $(ls libreoffice*); do touch ~\/.local\/share\/applications\/$file; done<\/pre>\n<p>The command will find out all the corresponding <code>.desktop<\/code> files for LibreOffice under <code>\/usr\/share\/applications<\/code> directory. Then create empty ones with same names in <code>~\/.local\/share\/applications\/<\/code>. The new files have higher priority, but empty! So, your system won&#8217;t show the app icons.<\/p>\n<p>To un-hide the pre-installed LibreOffice icons, just delete the files in local directory, then update the database via command:<\/p>\n<pre>rm ~\/.local\/share\/applications\/libreoffice* && sudo update-desktop-database<\/pre>\n<h3>Uninstall LibreOffice<\/h3>\n<p>To remove the pre-installed LibreOffice (<code>.deb<\/code>) package, open terminal and run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove libreoffice*<\/pre>\n<p>To uninstall the Snap package, either use Ubuntu Software (App Center) or run command:<\/p>\n<pre>snap remove libreoffice<\/pre>\n<p>And, remove the Flatpak package by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data org.libreoffice.LibreOffice<\/pre>\n<p>Also, run <code>flatpak uninstall --unused<\/code> to remove useless run-times.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LibreOffice, the popular free open-source office suite, announced a new major release this Wednesday.
