Try Varia!<\/p>\n<p>There are quite a few downloading apps for Linux Desktop. And, <a href=\"https:\/\/ugetdm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">uGet<\/a> is one of them that I prefer, which is however not updated for a few years.<\/p>\n<p>For GNOME, the default desktop in Ubuntu and Fedora Workstation, there&#8217;s now a new download manager called Varia. It&#8217;s based on aria command line download utility, which is lightweight, super fast (support downloading from multi-sources in parallel), and supports HTTP\/HTTPS, FTP, SFTP, BitTorrent and Metalink.<\/p>\n<p>Varia is written in Python programming language, and uses GTK4 + Libadwaita for its user interface, that&#8217;s modern and well integrated with GNOME Desktop.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-download-manager.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45738\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-download-manager-700x444.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-download-manager-700x444.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-download-manager-300x190.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-download-manager-768x487.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-download-manager.webp 1190w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The UI is stupid easy to use, just paste the download link into URL box, and hit &#8220;Download&#8221; button. Then it starts downloading and groups them in <code>All<\/code>, <code>In Process<\/code>, and <code>Completed<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent release added extensions support for Firefox and Chrome. And, there are the buttons in &#8216;Preferences&#8217; dialog to quickly open the extension pages.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-prefs.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-45739\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-prefs.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"646\" height=\"642\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-prefs.webp 646w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/varia-prefs-300x298.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 646px) 100vw, 646px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other features include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Free and open-source.<\/li>\n<li>Speed limit.<\/li>\n<li>Pause &amp; continue downloading even after reboot.<\/li>\n<li>And remote control.<\/li>\n<li>Run in background mode.<\/li>\n<li>Experimental Windows support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Varia is just a few months old project. It keeps moving with new features, but there may be bugs.
