It&#8217;s much more lightweight than the Pandora.com web client, and well integrated with Linux desktop that features media keys, notifications, and the sound menu.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/pithos\/pithos\/releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pithos 1.6.2<\/a> version was released a few days ago with only few bug-fixes. User can install in Ubuntu or other Linux through either Flatpak or Ubuntu PPA.<\/p>\n<h4>Option 1: Pithos Flatpak (official)<\/h4>\n<p>The app provides official Flatpak package that runs in most Linux on <code>amd64<\/code> (AMD\/Intel) and <code>arm64<\/code> platforms.<\/p>\n<p><b>Fedora 38\/39<\/b> (with 3rd party repository enabled) and <b>Linux Mint 21<\/b> can directly search for and install it either from Gnome Software or Software Manager.<\/p>\n<p>While <b>Ubuntu<\/b> and other Linux can do following steps one by one to install the Flatpak package:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>For Ubuntu, first press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to open terminal, and run command to enable Flatpak support:\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<p><i>Other Linux can follow the official <a href=\"https:\/\/flatpak.org\/setup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">setup guide<\/a> to enable Flatpak support.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-39141\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy-600x229.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy-600x229.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy-300x115.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy-768x294.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/apt-flatpak-jammy.webp 777w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Then, most Linux can run the single command to install Pithos Flatpak package:\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/io.github.Pithos.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/flatpak-pithos.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45759\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/flatpak-pithos-700x475.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"414\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/flatpak-pithos-700x475.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/flatpak-pithos-300x203.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/flatpak-pithos-768x521.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/flatpak-pithos.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>NOTE: first time installing Flatpak package needs a log out and back in to make app icon visible in start menu or &#8216;Activities&#8217; overview search results.<\/p>\n<h4>Option 2: Ubuntu PPA<\/h4>\n<p>For Ubuntu, Linux Mint users prefer the native <code>.deb<\/code> package format, I&#8217;ve upload the app package into this <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unofficial PPA<\/a> for Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 23.10, and next Ubuntu 24.04.<\/p>\n<p>1. First, press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b>\u00a0on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run the command below to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password when it asks (no asterisk feedback) and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pithos-focal-ppa.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-32882\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pithos-focal-ppa-600x155.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pithos-focal-ppa.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/pithos-focal-ppa-450x116.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. Then, run command to fresh the package cache for Linux Mint, while it&#8217;s done automatically in Ubuntu now:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<p>3. Finally, install or update the lightweight Pandora Radio client to listen online music:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install pithos<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/apt-pithos.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-32883\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/apt-pithos-600x255.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/apt-pithos.png 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/apt-pithos-450x191.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As the application does not update frequently, you may also download &amp; install the .deb package directly from <a href=\"http:\/\/ppa.launchpad.net\/ubuntuhandbook1\/apps\/ubuntu\/pool\/main\/p\/pithos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this page<\/a> (this is a http link, not sure if it works now in your browser).<\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall Pithos<\/h3>\n<p>For the official Flatpak package, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command to uninstall:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data io.github.Pithos<\/pre>\n<p>You may also run <code>flatpak uninstall --unused<\/code> to clear left over run-time libraries.<\/p>\n<p>To remove the Ubuntu PPA, open terminal and run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/pre>\n<p>Or, open &#8216;Software &amp; Updates&#8217; utility and remove the source line under &#8216;Other Software&#8217; tab.<\/p>\n<p>To remove Pithos .deb package, use command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove pithos<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pithos, the free open-source client for Pandora Radio, released new 1.6.2 version a few days ago.
