And, the latest so far is LibreOffice 24.2.x release series that was released a month ago.<\/p>\n<p>The office suite provides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.libreoffice.org\/download\/download-libreoffice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official packages<\/a> for Linux through Flatpak, Snap, Deb\/RPM, and AppImage.<\/p>\n<p>However, for Ubuntu users who prefer the native Deb package format, the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~libreoffice\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LibreOffice Fresh PPA<\/a> maintained by Ubuntu Team members, is a better choice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<i>OTOH, it is _way_ _better_ to use packages from this PPA than using the *.deb files that The Document Foundation provides upstream, which are intentionally build against a very old baseline for maximum compatibility. So, _if_ you want to be on the bleeding edge, do it here, not with upstream *.debs.<\/i>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>And now the PPA finally is updated that contains LibreOffice 24.2.1 for Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 23.10, and Ubuntu 24.04. While the Ubuntu 20.04 build is stuck at the last v7.6.5.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Install LibreOffice 24.2.x from Ubuntu PPA<\/h3>\n<p>1. First, press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to open up a terminal window. When it opens, run the command below to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it asks for sudo authentication and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/libreoffice-ppa-jammy.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43120\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/libreoffice-ppa-jammy-600x407.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/libreoffice-ppa-jammy-600x407.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/libreoffice-ppa-jammy-300x203.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/libreoffice-ppa-jammy-768x521.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/libreoffice-ppa-jammy.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. After adding the PPA, search for and launch &#8220;<b>Software Updater<\/b>&#8221; from <i>Activities<\/i> overview. Or, open &#8216;Update Manager&#8217; (and refresh) depends on your system.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/upgrade-libreoffice.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43121\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/upgrade-libreoffice-600x520.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/upgrade-libreoffice-600x520.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/upgrade-libreoffice-300x260.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/upgrade-libreoffice.webp 724w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There you should see LibreOffice packages available to update. Just click install and wait until done.<\/p>\n<p>If you have previously removed the pre-installed LibreOffice packages, then you can run the command below instead to install the latest .deb packages from PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update &amp;&amp; sudo apt install libreoffice<\/pre>\n<h3>How to Restore:<\/h3>\n<p>For any issue, you may restore the packages to stock version in system repository. To do so, press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal, and run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install ppa-purge &amp;&amp; sudo ppa-purge ppa:libreoffice\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p>This command will first install <code>ppa-purge<\/code> tool, then use it to purge the PPA which also downgrade all installed packages from that repository.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For users who prefer native .deb package, LibreOffice 24.2 is finally available to install via Ubuntu PPA!
