Here are 2 applications can do the job in current Ubuntu 22.04 and Ubuntu 24.04.<\/p>\n<p>To improve focus and increase your productivity, or easy to fall asleep, there are a few applications can help by playing natural sounds in Linux.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Relaxator<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/relaxator-lightdark.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45943\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/relaxator-lightdark-700x446.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/relaxator-lightdark-700x446.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/relaxator-lightdark-300x191.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/relaxator-lightdark-768x490.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/relaxator-lightdark.webp 1007w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For GNOME, the default desktop for Ubuntu and Fedora Workstation, Relaxator is a free and open-source app that can do the job!<\/p>\n<p>As the screenshot above shows you, it provides a stupid simple user interface that so far support only 9 natural sounds:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the sounds of the forest<\/li>\n<li>the sound of the surf<\/li>\n<li>night sounds.<\/li>\n<li>raining sound<\/li>\n<li>fire sound<\/li>\n<li>sound of flowing water<\/li>\n<li>ambient noise of city.<\/li>\n<li>running train sound.<\/li>\n<li>cat purring sound.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Just click an icon on the app window to play the corresponding sound, and click again to stop it. You can play an individual sound or click multiple icons for mixed sounds.<\/p>\n<p>The app is sadly so far not friendly to dark mode, as the icon is kinda un-visible. They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rain.<\/li>\n<li>Storm.<\/li>\n<li>Wind.<\/li>\n<li>Waves.<\/li>\n<li>Stream.<\/li>\n<li>Birds sound.<\/li>\n<li>Summer Night.<\/li>\n<li>Train.<\/li>\n<li>Boat.<\/li>\n<li>City.<\/li>\n<li>Coffee Shop<\/li>\n<li>Fireplace.<\/li>\n<li>Pink Noise.<\/li>\n<li>White Noise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>User can click on each sound icon, or use the individual volume slider to start or stop playing that sound. The enabled icon color varies depend on system accent color.<\/p>\n<p>It supports adding custom sounds (even songs) in OGG, FLAV, MP3, WAV file formats. And, it supports sound preset! And, it&#8217;s available to install through other Distro specific repositories, see <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/rafaelmardojai\/blanket\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Github page<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<h4>Uninstall Blanket<\/h4>\n<p>For Ubuntu, Linux Mint users installed Blanket from PPA, simply open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command to uninstall:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove blanket<\/pre>\n<p>Also run command to remove the Ubuntu PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:apandada1\/blanket<\/pre>\n<p>Finally, run <code>sudo apt update<\/code> to refresh system package cache.<\/p>\n<h3>Summary:<\/h3>\n<p>In this tutorial, I&#8217;ve show you 2 applications to play ambient sounds in Linux. They are Blanket and Relaxator.
