And, the Song Change plugin now allows to run custom command when a song is stopped.<\/p>\n<p>Audacious 4.4 now defaults to GTK3 + Qt6, though Qt5 and GTK2 are still supported. It improved Wayland support for GTK interface, but the classic Winamp interface does NOT work properly on Wayland, thus users are recommended to run Audacious via XWayland (default behavior if available) therefore.<\/p>\n<p>Other changes in Audacious 4.4 include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Add Disc Number support<\/li>\n<li>Read ReplayGain values in Opus files from R128 tags<\/li>\n<li>Allow to disable column header sorting<\/li>\n<li>Middle-click on volume button to mute\/un-mute.<\/li>\n<li>Add Shift+Enter shortcut to Jump-to-Song dialog<\/li>\n<li>Improve PipeWire support.<\/li>\n<li>HTTPS support and X86_64 build for Windows<\/li>\n<li>Various bug-fixes, see <a href=\"https:\/\/audacious-media-player.org\/news\/59-audacious-4-4-released\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release note<\/a> for details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious44.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46742\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious44-700x480.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious44-700x480.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious44-300x206.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious44-768x527.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious44.webp 863w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>How to Install Audacious 4.4 in Ubuntu<\/h3>\n<p>The software website provides official <code>.exe<\/code> files for Microsoft Windows users:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/audacious-media-player.org\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Audacious Source &amp; Windows EXE<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Ubuntu users, it&#8217;s available to install via <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ubuntu PPA<\/a> (native <code>.deb<\/code> package), Snap package, or <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/org.atheme.audacious\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flatpak package<\/a> (runs in sandbox environment).<\/p>\n<h4>Method 1: Audacious Snap package<\/h4>\n<p>If you&#8217;re OK running the audio player in sandbox environment, then Audacious is easy to install through Ubuntu Software (or App Center) as Snap package.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious-snap.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious-snap-700x462.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"403\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46746\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious-snap-700x462.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious-snap-300x198.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious-snap-768x507.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/audacious-snap.webp 1044w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Method 2. Install Audacious via Flatpak<\/h4>\n<p>Most Linux can install the audio player as Flatpak package, that runs in sandbox. So far, it supports <code>amd64<\/code> and <code>arm64<\/code> platforms.<\/p>\n<p>All current Ubuntu user can press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal and run the 2 commands below one by one to get it.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enable Flatpak support:\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Install Audacious as Flatpak:\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/org.atheme.audacious.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After installation, search for and launch it from start menu or Gnome overview. Log out and back in if app icon not visible.<\/p>\n<h4>Method 3. Install Audacious from Ubuntu PPA<\/h4>\n<p>For Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 23.10, and Ubuntu 24.04 users, I&#8217;ve uploaded the new release package into PPA for <code>amd64<\/code> and <code>arm64\/armhf<\/code> machines.<\/p>\n<p>Changes in the PPA package:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Packages for Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 20.04 are built with Qt5 + GTK3, since Qt6 is NOT available.<\/li>\n<li>Qt6 + GTK3 for Ubuntu 22.04 and higher.<\/li>\n<li>The dependency library name changes that follow upstream policy in Ubuntu 24.04:\n<ul>\n<li>libaudcore5 -&gt; libaudcore5t64<\/li>\n<li>libaudgui5 -&gt; libaudgui5t64<\/li>\n<li>libaudqt2 -&gt; libaudqt2t64<\/li>\n<li>libaudtag3 -&gt; libaudtag3t64<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1. First, press <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password (no visual feedback, just type in mind) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/audacious-ppa-jammy.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43752\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/audacious-ppa-jammy-600x407.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/audacious-ppa-jammy-600x407.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/audacious-ppa-jammy-300x203.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/audacious-ppa-jammy-768x521.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/audacious-ppa-jammy.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. Then, update system package cache:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<p>3. If you have an old version of the music player installed, you can now update the package to the latest using &#8220;Software Updater&#8221; utility.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/upgrade-audacious.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43753\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/upgrade-audacious-600x470.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/upgrade-audacious-600x470.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/upgrade-audacious-300x235.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/upgrade-audacious.webp 729w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Or, run the command below in terminal to install or upgrade the package:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install audacious audacious-plugins<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/apt-audacious-jammy.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-43754\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/apt-audacious-jammy-600x407.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/apt-audacious-jammy-600x407.webp 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/apt-audacious-jammy-300x203.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/apt-audacious-jammy-768x521.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/apt-audacious-jammy.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE: For Ubuntu 22.04 runs into &#8220;Error opening output stream&#8221; issue, open &#8220;Settings&#8221; and set audio output plugin to &#8220;PulseAudio&#8221; output.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall Audacious<\/h3>\n<p>To remove the audio player installed as Flatpak, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and use command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data org.atheme.audacious<\/pre>\n<p>Also clean up runtime library via <code>flatpak uninstall --unused<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to restore the music player to the stock version available in system repository. Run command below to purge PPA as well as downgrade installed packages:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install ppa-purge &amp;&amp; sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/pre>\n<p>Or, simply remove the software packages by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove audacious audacious-plugins-data<\/pre>\n<p>And remove the PPA either via &#8220;Software &amp; Updates&#8221; under &#8216;Other Software&#8217; tab or use command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/pre>\n<p>That&#8217;s all.
