They include the <b>color equalizer<\/b> module, allowing to control hue, lightness, and\/or saturation based on colors.<\/p>\n<p>There are as well new <b>Enlarge Canvas<\/b> module, allowing to add areas on top, bottom, left, and\/or right of the image, and fill with different colors, or some other part of the image by using Retouch module.<\/p>\n<p>By drag-and-dropping from the filmstrip to the new <b>Overlay<\/b> module, it can now add overlay on top of current image. New library and configuration will no longer be usable with 4.6.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For Ubuntu, user can either choose download the AppImage via the link above, add &#8220;Executable as Program&#8221; permission under file &#8220;Properties&#8221;, finally click Run to launch the software.<\/p>\n<p>Or, install Darktable via one of the below methods:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Flatpak<\/strong> package, runs in sandbox environment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Native .deb<\/strong> package, via either OBS repository or Ubuntu PPA.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Snap<\/strong> package, runs in sandbox environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Option 1: Native Deb package<\/h4>\n<p>For those who hate running app in sandbox environment, the native Darktable packages for Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and OpenSUSE are available to download at this <a href=\"https:\/\/software.opensuse.org\/download.html?project=graphics:darktable&amp;package=darktable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OBS page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For choice, Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and Ubuntu 23.10 on either <code>amd64<\/code> or <code>arm64<\/code> platform can run the 3 commands below one by one in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) to install the most recent release from <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/darktable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ubuntu PPA<\/a>:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/darktable<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo apt install darktable<\/pre>\n<h4>Option 2: Darktable Flatpak package<\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/org.darktable.Darktable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Darktable Flatpak<\/a> package runs in sandbox environment, and can be installed in most Linux, including all current Ubuntu release, and even old Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 18.04.<\/p>\n<p>Linux Mint 21 and Fedora Workstation (with 3rd repository enabled) can directly search for and install it from either Software Manager or GNOME Software.<\/p>\n<p>While, Ubuntu users can press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> to open up a terminal window, and run the 2 commands below one by one to install the package:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/org.darktable.Darktable.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<p>For old Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 18.04, you need to add <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~flatpak\/+archive\/ubuntu\/stable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this PPA<\/a> first.<\/p>\n<p>After installation, log out and back in if app icon is not visible in menu. And, to update the package, simply use command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak update org.darktable.Darktable<\/pre>\n<h4>Option 3: Darktable Snap package<\/h4>\n<p>For all current Ubuntu releases, the easiest way is using the Snap package, which is available in Ubuntu Software or App Center. Though, it&#8217;s not updated to v4.8.0 at the moment of writing. Check <a href=\"https:\/\/snapcraft.io\/darktable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a> for more about the snap package.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/darktable-appcenter.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46783\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/darktable-appcenter-700x467.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/darktable-appcenter-700x467.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/darktable-appcenter-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/darktable-appcenter-768x513.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/darktable-appcenter.webp 977w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall Darktable<\/h3>\n<p>Depends on which package you installed on your system, uninstall the RAW photo processing app via one of the methods below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To uninstall the .deb package, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command:\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove darktable<\/pre>\n<p>Also run the command to remove PPA as you want:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/darktable<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>To uninstall the Flatpak package, use command:\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data org.darktable.Darktable<\/pre>\n<p>Also run flatpak uninstall &#8211;unused to clean up useless run-times.<\/li>\n<li>For the Snap package, either use Ubuntu Software (App Center), or run command:\n<pre>snap remove --purge darktable<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Darktable, the free open-source raw image processing software, released new 4.8.0 version this Friday!
