Due to its beginner friendly menu options, built-in title templates, and animated titles (Blender powered), I prefer it over Kdenlive and Shotcut.<\/p>\n<p>However, the video editor was sluggish, froze frequently, and slow for video preview playback every time after made changes. It made me crazy quite often, so I turned to learn using Kdenlive for basic editing.<\/p>\n<p><b>In OpenShot 3.2.0, the video editor has significant performance enhancements. It&#8217;s now running smoothly out-of-the-box in my Ubuntu 24.04 laptop!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-light-mode.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46829\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-light-mode-700x420.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-light-mode-700x420.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-light-mode-300x180.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-light-mode-768x460.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-light-mode-1320x791.webp 1320w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-light-mode.webp 1530w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Besides performance improvements, the release also introduced <b>2 new themes<\/b>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Retro<\/b>, as the screenshot above shows it&#8217;s great for users prefer working in light mode.<\/li>\n<li><b>Cosmic Dusk<\/b> theme with blue colors, new icons, and more compressed design.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-newthemes.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46830\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-newthemes-700x436.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-newthemes-700x436.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-newthemes-300x187.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-newthemes-768x479.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/openshot-newthemes.webp 828w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The release also improved timeline snapping and behaviors, improved Undo \/ Redo functionality for better transaction support, and <b>added Remove Gap feature<\/b> to quickly remove empty space between video clips.<\/p>\n<p>You can either right-click on a gap in time-line and use the context menu option to remove that gap, or right-click on header of the track to remove all gaps. So, all clips to the right will shift over by the amount of the gap.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/remove-gap.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-46831\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/remove-gap.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"592\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/remove-gap.webp 592w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/remove-gap-300x131.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 592px) 100vw, 592px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other changes in OpenShot 3.2.0 include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Update with Blender 4.1 support.<\/li>\n<li>Improve HiDPI display support.<\/li>\n<li>Experimental support for Java bindings<\/li>\n<li>Improve FFmpeg 7.0 compatibility<\/li>\n<li>Add auto-resize capability to crop effect.<\/li>\n<li>See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openshot.org\/blog\/2024\/06\/24\/new_openshot_release_320\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release note<\/a> for more details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to Install OpenShot 3.2.0 in Ubuntu &amp; other Linux<\/h3>\n<p>The software website provides universal Linux package through <b>AppImage<\/b>. It&#8217;s a non-install package that can run directly to launch the video editor, after added executable permission from file Properties dialog.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openshot.org\/download\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download OpenShot<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, and Ubuntu 24.04, there&#8217;s an <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~openshot.developers\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official PPA<\/a> contains the native <code>.deb<\/code> package for Intel\/AMD platform.
