The release added two new options <code>Rush Frame Presentation<\/code> and <code>Smooth Frame Presentation<\/code> to reduce latency and improve frame pacing.<\/p>\n<p>It also added a reset all settings option, and new BBA-IPC mode for running multiple Dolphin instances on the same machine to share memory and communicate directly without the need for a host network. runs in sandbox environment, and can be installed in most Linux.<\/li>\n<li><b>Ubuntu PPA<\/b> &#8211; contains native <code>.deb<\/code> package.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Option 1: Install Dolphin Emulator Flatpak package<\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/org.DolphinEmu.dolphin-emu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flatpak package<\/a> runs in sandbox, but can be installed in most Linux, including Debian, Fedora, Arch, RHEL, all current Ubuntu releases, and even old Ubuntu 18.04\/1604.<\/p>\n<p>For Ubuntu, first press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to open up a terminal window, then run command to install Flatpak daemon package:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<p><i>NOTE: the old Ubuntu 18.04 need to add <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~flatpak\/+archive\/ubuntu\/stable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this PPA<\/a> first before being able to install the daemon<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45732\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble-700x501.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"437\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble-700x501.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble-300x215.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble-768x550.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>After enabled Flatpak support, you have 2 choices: download &amp; If you don&#8217;t see the app icon, try <strong>log out and back in<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4>Option 2: Install Dolphin Emulator 2603 from Ubuntu PPA<\/h4>\n<p>For those who prefer the native <code>.deb<\/code> package format, I&#8217;ve built the new release into this <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/dolphin-emu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unofficial PPA<\/a>, which so far supports <b>Ubuntu 22.04,<\/b>\u00a0<b>Ubuntu 24.04, and 25.10<\/b>\u00a0on <code>amd64<\/code> (AMD\/Intel) and <code>arm64<\/code> (e.g., Raspberry Pi) platforms.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE 1: The PPA package is NOT well tested! The emulator app window starts in my case in 24.04, but I don&#8217;t have game ROMs to try out if it&#8217;s working good.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE 2: Current 2 Ubuntu LTS releases miss some dependency libraries. I added them in the source of dolphin-emu (under &#8220;Externals sub-folder&#8221;), and built into bundle. Due to these external libraries, the source tarball (in PPA page) is not identical to the one in Github project page.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. First, press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to open up a terminal window. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/dolphin-emu<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/dolphin-emu-ppa.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46866\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/dolphin-emu-ppa-700x505.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/dolphin-emu-ppa-700x505.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/dolphin-emu-ppa-300x216.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/dolphin-emu-ppa.webp 706w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. If you&#8217;re following this tutorial in Linux Mint, then you need to run command to manually refresh package cache:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<p>3. Finally, install the <code>.deb<\/code> package of the emulator by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install -t \"o=LP-PPA-ubuntuhandbook1-dolphin-emu\" dolphin-emu<\/pre>\n<p><b>NOTE: If the app does NOT launch after installation, try to install the <code>qt6-wayland<\/code> and <code>qt6-qpa-plugins<\/code> via command:<\/b><\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install qt6-wayland qt6-qpa-plugins<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/apt-dolphinemu.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46867\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/apt-dolphinemu-700x505.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/apt-dolphinemu-700x505.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/apt-dolphinemu-300x216.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/apt-dolphinemu.webp 706w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall Dolphin Emulator<\/h3>\n<p>To uninstall the Flatpak package, open terminal and run command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data org.DolphinEmu.dolphin-emu<\/pre>\n<p>Also run <code>flatpak uninstall --unused<\/code> to clear useless run-time libraries.<\/p>\n<p>To uninstall the .deb package, use command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove dolphin-emu dolphin-emu-data<\/pre>\n<p>Also remove the Ubuntu PPA by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/dolphin-emu<\/pre>\n<p>And, Linux Mint users need to run <code>sudo apt update<\/code> afterwards to refresh package cache.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This tutorial shows how to install the latest dolphin emulator (2603 updated) through either Flatpak or PPA repository in Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and Ubuntu 25.10.
