Here&#8217;s how to upgrade it in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or Linux Mint 17.1<\/b> while it&#8217;s already made into Ubuntu repositories for 14.10 Utopic and 15.04 Vivid.<\/p>\n<p>VLC 2.2.0 was released a few hours ago with numerous new features, fix more than one thousand bugs and improves the scope of the formats supported. Thanks to <i>Doug McMahon<\/i>, VLC 2.2.0 for 14.04 Trusty is available in <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~jonathonf\/+archive\/ubuntu\/vlc\" title=\"VLC backports for Ubuntu 14.04\" target=\"_blank\">this PPA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>1. To add the PPA, open terminal from menu or by pressing <u>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/u> on keyboard. When it opens, run:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonathonf\/vlc<\/pre>\n<p>Please read the PPA description before press Enter to continue adding the PPA.<\/p>\n<p>2. After adding the PPA, run below commands one by one to upgrade to the 2.2.0 release from previous version:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get update\n\nsudo apt-get install vlc vlc-plugin-*<\/pre>\n<p><b><u>Uninstall\/Downgrade VLC:<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>To downgrade to previous release, install ppa-purge and purge the PPA which also downgrade packages installed from it:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install ppa-purge\n\nsudo ppa-purge ppa:jonathonf\/vlc<\/pre>\n<p>To remove VLC, just run:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get remove vlc vlc-plugin-*<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VLC 2.2.0, codename WeatherWax, finally goes stable.
